WASHINGTON Senator John Hoeven today announced the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded more than $17 million in grants with funds appropriated by Congress to improve airports in Minot, Grand Forks, Bowman, Devils Lake and Jamestown. Hoeven is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
DOTs decision to award more than $17 million to improve North Dakotas airports reflects our ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure across North Dakota, especially in the rapidly growing western portion of our state that continues to see increased demand at airports, said Hoeven. It remains imperative that we work to meet this increased demand with smart investments that will develop airports so they can meet the demands of the businesses and individuals who rely on these airports to further the work that is creating the tremendous economic growth were experiencing.
The DOT grants will be allocated to airports in five North Dakota cities as follows:
The DOT grant program was reauthorized by Congress through MAP-21, the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act that was signed into law in 2012.
Hoeven, who was appointed by leadership to serve on the joint Senate-House conference committee responsible for crafting the package, worked to make sure the bill was long-term to make sure states had the certainty to plan for large projects. MAP-21 also streamlines the environmental review process, enabling the state to move forward with greater efficiency to address infrastructure needs across North Dakota.
Hoeven and Senator Heidi Heitkamp also hosted FAA Administrator Michael Huerta to North Dakota this spring so he could see the unique aviation challenges impacting western North Dakota.
WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, a member of the Congressional General Aviation Caucus, today announced more than $17 million in federal funding for five airports across North Dakota.
Well, one is a republican and one is a democrat, seems they agree on this though, the the Federal Government has a stash of money;)
This is par for the course. Before anyone start screaming “RINO!” Hoeven was the most popular Governor in 2009, he is staunchly pro-life and pro-traditional marriage. In fact, I hope he runs in 2016. He would be only 60, and he has two terms as Governor under his belt. A solid center-right Republican.
U.S. Debt to the Penny,$17,466,359,022,192.19,that's TRILLION.
Me? I'd just rather have states pay for their own roads and infrastructure. But when locals start screaming to their Congresscritters that this and that road or bridge need funding, what are you going to do?
Pork barrel, Pork barrel, bring home the bacon.
Politicians some money are sure to be makin’
Because $800,000 fire truck and new airports in the middle of nowhere is what made this country great.
Depends on who is doing the screaming,a pothole needs fixing, there is money for that, when unions do the screaming,I know where our $17 million in grants is going.
Nothing for Williston, Dickinson, or Watford City, in the heart of oil development. So how does this mitigate effects of oil development? Grand Forks is on the other end of the State.
I hate typos.
Usually it's the guys that say "Cut that guy's spending, but not mine."
The whole process stinks. Nobody has the fortitude to say it and call for reform. Until then (and I'm just focusing on infrastructure here), Congresscritters will simply do what they are demanded by angry locals and screaming newspaper editorials. Even Ron Paul voted for earmarks, though he made the case for reform.
