India's pro-business Modi storms to historic election win

Opposition candidate Narendra Modi thundered to victory on Friday in India's election, with partial results showing that the pro-business Hindu nationalist and his party trounced the ruling Nehru-Gandhi dynasty in a seismic political shift.

Modi's landslide, the most resounding election victory India has seen in 30 years, was welcomed with a blistering rally on India's stock markets and raucous celebrations at offices across the country of his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where supporters danced, exploded fireworks and gave out sweets.

The BJP looked certain of a parliamentary majority, giving the 63-year-old former tea-seller ample room to advance economic reforms which were started 23 years ago by current Prime Minister Manmohan Singh but stalled in recent years.

Singh's Congress party suffered its worst ever wipeout, a big boost to Modi's goal of ending the dominance of the Nehru-Gandhi family that has governed for most of the 67 years of independent India.

Singh, whose party looked set to win less than 50 of the 543 parliamentary seats at stake, congratulated Modi with a telephone call.

Pro free markets and anti Muslim seems to be a winning combo...

I’m pro free-enterprise and pro free-market.

Free enterprise creates wealth without coercion. Whereas Government makes nothing and merely takes wealth by coercion.

Which is why America has wisely built itself about the careful restraint of Government.

I believe BJP is going to rollback the extremely unpopular constraints on Gold.

The Nehru-Ghandi socialist oligarchy has been holding back India ever since their independence. Lets hope that this is a permanent change. We need a powerful ally in that part of the world to offset China. It is unlikely that this administration will promote better relations however.

It is why it WAS built, now not so sure as we continue
to see our economy stalled by government growth and waste.

The thought of a pro-business America and India working
together has to give fits to the the socialist hegemonists.

Great. Now, one wonders whether or not Obama will manage to delete the record which refers to Modi as a terrorist, give him a visa, invite him to Washington, and generate a bit of good feeling between the two administrations.

Let’s hope Modi is willing to forgive and forget that America took an enormous dump on him.

RE: We need a powerful ally in that part of the world to offset China. It is unlikely that this administration will promote better relations however.

"Narendra Modi . . . could bring India and China closer, says an influential state-run Chinese daily." He's had close business ties to Red China.

But others say there's a "possibility that India will ally with Japan and Vietnam to contain China after Modi becomes the PM". But Red China claims "western media and observers are 'trying to foment discord between China and India'".

"The US is particularly upset with the enhanced strategic cooperation among China, Russia and India,"

Modi in power could bring India, China closer [says] Chinese daily

Things are getting real serious between Red China and neighbors. The aged 1960 Marxist-Alinsky campus radical, psycho spoiled brats and their ideological issue running Washington, D.C. will likely use the situation to further abase the U.S. of A.

Very impressive that one of the major countries of the world has such a peaceful and open transition of power.

Still very rare in today’s world.

Congratulations to India on her democracy.

Obama can't handle anyone dissing his fellow muslims.

I would bet that Modi has been well advised of Obama's love of Islam uber alles.

Surely he also knows that Obama's time in the spot light is coming to an end.

You could randomly pick any third world country and recognize that socialist oligarchs are keeping it backward. Wealth comes from strong private property rights and individual liberty. There is no other way.

Lets hop[e Modi stays cl;ear of Vladimir Putin, who would like nothing better than to have Alu Gobi on his menu daily.

India loved GW Bush. They distrust Obama.
