Deficit Is Down, So Thank The Tea Party

American history has been profoundly shaped by citizen-driven grass-roots movements that spontaneously combust into seismic political change.

This is the story of the Founding Fathers, the abolitionists, the progressives, the civil-rights movement, the 1970s tax revolt and ... it's time to add to that list the oft-maligned tea party movement.

We don't fully recognize the earthquake change brought about by these millions of military veterans, housewives, nurses, schoolteachers, construction workers, senior citizens, investment bankers and clergy who saw the recklessness and immorality of debt, redistribution, Washington waste, federal bailouts and ObamaCare.

Nancy Pelosi couldn't have gotten it more wrong when she snorted that this was an artificial "astroturf" movement controlled by the Koch brothers and the Republican National Committee.

In reality, this was a local and organic movement of mostly political neophytes.

Their tactics and goals were sometimes politically naive and a few times counterproductive. But I was on the Washington Mall on 9/12 when at least a half-million gathered to express their rage against a government that had come unhinged. Their common bond was a healthy contempt for the centralized power, arrogance, ignorance and greed of the privileged class in Washington.

The tea partiers didn't like the policies of George W. Bush much more than those of Barack Obama. This was never partisan, though the anger was directed at the party in power — the Obama Democrats.

What did they accomplish? That question was answered in part by the latest government report on the budget and the debt.

How about thanking God first and then the conservatives who put their money where their mouths are and who are quietly working behind the scenes to do what they can to stem this evil tide.

As you can tell, I’m somewhat tired of giving credit to the “Tea Party” for the work of nameless individuals who don’t even think “Tea Party,” and the efforts of many to create a party to garner allegiance and money.

Give the Tea Party where credit is due!

The Tea Party was elected in 2010 on a platform of cutting the budget, downsizing the government, making taxes smaller, slowing the debt and killing Obamacare.

Since that time the budget is higher, the government is bigger, taxes have gone up and Obamacare is now fully entrenched.

Now I know the government has released some report claiming that the fiscal nightmare really isn’t so bad.

It’s called “lying”.

The first step to fixing a problem is admitting you have one. Sitting around lying to ourselves isn’t going to help anything.

And now Tea Party leaders come to the forefront in the fight to open the borders and let everyone in.

If I were a liberal in 2014, I’d be laughing and crapping on everyone too. :)

Amen, and they deserve some credit.

The so-called “Tea Party” is getting credit where it is not due.

Hubby and I were part of that DC throng in Sept. of 2009. There certainly wasn’t any astro-turfing involved in that gathering!

Yep, and we as conservatives are far better off for having the Tea Party than not having it.

Stephen Moore laid it out pretty plainly in the article for whomever takes the time to read it.

Pretty shallow reasoning. Was the TEA Party elected as a majority in the Republican caucus?

There is quite a difference between Obama's spending before versus after 2010 when the leftists lost control of the people's house. It's not a coincidence.

Obama's budget went down to defeat in the Senate 99 - 0.

No one voted for it. Not even Democrats.

But at the heart of the Obama budget was massive spending increases everywhere. The types of increases that the Republican House green lighted.

For God's sake, the Paul Ryan budget fully funded Obamacare!

*laughs*

Okay, I'll play your game. Name one place (outside of possibly the military) where they're spending LESS money than they did before.

Name one major thing the Tea Party has stopped.

Name just one.

The IRS is leaking private information to liberal groups - a clear violation of our laws! And so far, no one ANYWHERE has been punished!

And now comes the Amnesty push - led by, wait for it - Tea Party leaders.

The very first thing we need to do is start being honest with ourselves. We're in REALLY BIG TROUBLE.
