We could spend all week talking about whose fault it is, but for brevities sake, the short list would be guns, Hollywood, poverty, underfunding, and drugs. But here’s the issue. If we regulate guns, regulate Hollywood, pump money into the area and make drugs more illegal, are we going to solve the problem? Not even the strongest proponents of these “causes” think we will.
It might surprise you to know that military coups are rarely unpopular. In fact, peace-loving middle class people are their biggest fans because most coups are built on frustration. In Pakistan, it was unrelenting corruption of the political system. In Thailand, it was the same. In Saudi Arabia it was an overreaction. The Saudi on the street hated Libya’s dictator Gadaffi. But the one most similar to Buffalo was Colombia and its rampant violence.
We like to think that America was founded on freedom and democracy, and in many ways this is true, but what freedom does a 19-year-old mother on welfare with a 3-year-old in the emergency room with gunshot wounds have?

The shooter, when caught, will get off with “Hood Disease” based on new CDC findings and be back on the street in days. (in the Hood”)
No thanks.
Buffalo is once again the wild west.
None of the mentioned “corrections” will fix the problem. The real issue is a moral one. Too many people see nothing wrong with lying, cheating, stealing, and killing without thought or remorse. Until that is corrected only greater force applied or he threat of greater force applied can control or come close to controlling the evil.
Articles like this are just priming the pump for martial law. The author wants people to believe it’s your ‘safety’ first and your ‘freedom’ second.
It will come first to ‘bad’ places, but will extend to other areas. Again the argument will be about ‘safety’.
BTW, I grew up in a federal housing project in Buffalo.(Kensington) We used to ride our bicycles to Deleware Park Lake. until I was 13. We moved into my grandfather’s house 3 blocks from ECMC. (Erie County Medical Center)
Give our military a break. Don’t send them into another quaqmire!

I know that area well. It’s been detroit light for some time...but catching up!
That’s what we need ... MORE government thugs asserting their “authority”.
And the trains will run on time!
Hear how reasonable he sounds? Who could object?
(If you don’t catch my drift, this guy is an evil moron)
Sometimes in Detroit it does feel like it would be a better place if a few units of returning Michigan Guard could take down the local drug and petty crime industry. I am sure lessons learned in Baghdad would directly appy. The cops are outgunned and outmanned. We have a great DPD chief but what we need is a return to a normal society. Draw up a list of operations with deadlines and then withdraw when the goals are met. Then hire some of the vets to guard schools.
They need some Buffalo Soldiers, mon!
I see no real problem if the Governor with the elected city Mayor approval send in a couple hundred National Guardsman's into the worst crime ridden neighborhoods to control the violence...and support the police...
After all isn't that the job of city and state officials to protect it's citizens ?
Liberal platitudes and hand wringing certainly isn't the answer...
Hoping to have half her grit, if the time ever comes.
My “short list” for the cause is even shorter than the author’s - feral thugs.
