It is a wild vegetable that is ubiquitous in the South which is commonly consumed fried with bacon fat and ‘shrooms.
If harvested too late it is toxic, but reputed to have psycho-active effects at just the right point in its maturity.
I knew “shrooms” were involved, somehow.
