During training of the cadet corps of the Units of Pacifying Police (UPP) in Rio de Janeiro last week, Brazilian police evidently thought it would be a swell idea to let this girl with zero experience toss  a grenade -- a LIVE grenade.

Well let's just say it didn't exactly go as planned...

Back in basic training, I recall being in the left side of the three person practice grenade toss pit. The jerk in the middle, a draftee, tossed his grenade hitting the top of the wall across the front of the three pits. NO ONE KNEW WHERE IT WENT and the sergeant in my pit turned white, which was quite an accomplishment. Anyway the grenade made it over the wall and exploded showering us with debris. I don't recall the name of the trainee or what he looked like but except for the fact this happened to me over 45 years ago, he could have been the guy in the video.
