ABUJA -- An explosion hit a Christian- dominated area in Nigeria's northern city of Kano on Sunday night, triggering fears that there might be huge casualties, local police said.
The suspected car bomb ripped through a busy road in Sabon-Gari at about 9:30 p.m. local time when the area was crowded with street hawkers and traders, state police spokesman Musa Majiya told Xinhua by phone.
"It was a loud bang, but we cannot confirm the figure of casualties for now," said the police spokesman, adding that police officers and bomb disposal experts had been dispatched to the scene.
