THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. - KESQ and CBS Local 2 learned singer Jerry Vale passed away Sunday morning in hospice care with family by his side.
At the age of 15, he started singing professionally in supper clubs. Known for singing primarily love songs, Vale went on to record more than 50 albums.
Vale received a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars on December 5th, 1998. His star is at 255 S. Palm Canyon Drive.
Vale and Rita, his wife of over 40 years, resided in Palm Desert.
Vale was 81 years old.

When I was a senior in high school, about a thousand years ago, I was a little awkward when there were lasses in the neighborhood. That lasted through 11th, 12th and into 13th grade.
This song forced me to take a run at it, and it made life a whole lot more fun. I don't know that my personality changed, but when I took a run at it I discovered that my suave, cosmopolitan friends were a every bit as terrified of rejection as I was. When I started dating seniors, at first, then the college lasses, my suave, cosmopolitan friends started asking me if Miss So and So had a sister or a cousin or a friend who would like to join us at a drive-in movie or a dinner and a walk by the lake.
Life was simpler in those days...or maybe not. The lasses were sure lookers, all of 'em.
Then Uncle Sam called. There I discovered that the most suave and sophisticated of the other enlisted men related to the fine lasses we met at inverse success to the amount they bragged about conquests.
All I can say is, thank you Jerry Vale, and RIP.
I actually met Jerry one time at a Mets game-in high school(it was probably 67 or 68),my buddy and I were on the subway going to Shea for a midweek game when we were off during spring break. Some guy on the subway asked if we had tics-sold us two really cheap. Turned out they were field level, six rows back on the homeplate side of the Cubs dugout- two rows in front was Jerry Vale-he graciously signed our scorecards. A great singer- RIP
I’m building an LP collection of the greats. Coming from estate sales they’re not that expensive. Still have my Dad’s 1956 custom hi-fi cabinet with Pioneer components.
It’s poignant to get a stack of LPs from eBay each with a return address label showing the owner. Many from New Jersey but I picked up twenty-five Carmen Cavallaro LPs from an estate in Butte, Montana!
Some wonderful listening but I am transcribing them to other media. Stacking the ol’ turntable is fun but then I have to get the records back in the jackets & back on the shelf.
Jerry Vale is one more to be missed. Is it already 20 years since Dean Martin passed on? Dinah Shore died that same year. Time marches on.
I’m hoping my brother has my parents’ old albums. They have great sentimental value to me.
I have listened to the “big band””crooners” types of stations for years even if it’s not the kind of music I grew up with.
Sammy Davis Jr., Perry Como, Martin Denny, Bobby Vinton, the Tiki Lounge, a whole lot of good music is out there to appreciate.

There was this guy Dino Martin, and this other one Frank ‘The Chairman’ Sinatra. My grandfather is buried next to Eddie Fisher in SoCal.
You certainly don't. The current group of "singers" could not come close to the notes and style of a Jerry Vale, even if they were inclined to sing songs of such beauty...which I doubt.

And the main thing about music of the earlier years is that songs were not age specific......everyone old or young sang and enjoyed these songs. Music brought us together, not like separating us today.

My parents had a Jerry Vale album I played all the time. It was love songs in different languages. Bella!
Rest in peace Mister Vale. Your music was one of the many pleasant memories of my childhood.
