the Carson show I was watching had Frank on the couch then Rickles came out and did a very short skit totally geared towards Frank...the usual guinea-wop stuff that Rickles will use when he is not mocking any other nationality or race (which I love by the way as an American of Italian descent). Rickles did a “...I can listen to any one of your Goomba singers..”(rough paraphrase)...to which Frank replied “ who....Jerry Fail...”

that’s it...

I loved all his songs. And he never had to grab his crouch.

You have to view Jerry Vale singing "Pretend You Don't See Her' in "Goodfellas" to appreciate the full impact of the scene and his beautiful voice. It's a haunting five minutes.

I remember like yesterday when "Sam" (Dooley Wilson) sang "As Time Goes By" in "Casablanca". You have to grasp the whole Bogie/Bergman-in-wartime-Casablanca thing unfolding on the screen to fully appreciate the song.

Likewise. you have to see "Goodfellas" to get the full impact of Jerry Vale singing his love song to the suddenly-quiet, pensive gangsters and their women in the nightclub scene. It's unforgettable as far as movie songs go.

Rest in Peace, good fella!

I just saw Goodfellas for the first time recently and several times since. It is a gripping scene, like so many in that movie. Something about that movie.
