The European Union must pull closer together and establish a strong military presence, so it can act as a “moral anchor” to the United States, the economist Kenneth Rogoff has warned.

Speaking ahead of next week’s European elections, Mr. Rogoff, a former chief economist of the International Monetary Fund, said the EU should strive to become more “like a single country”. […]

He added: “It would be a very good investment of German taxpayers’ money to write down debt in the periphery countries. There are a lot of ways to do it. You can be very opaque about it. The taxpayers don’t ever need to know it happened.”

Yeah, old uncle Adolph wanted the same thing as did cousin Bonaparte, and his friend Ollie Cromwell might have agreed and I know Charlemagne would have approved. Hey even Joe Stalin thought this was a good idea.

What could possibly go wrong with an army from a unified Europe?

Would they call themselves the 4th Reich or Grand Caliphate? ?

It would be the former name. Enough EU elites have invoked the First Reich and the crown thereof to let the world know where they stand.

This is hussein's objective as well.

“For the sake of the world, we need Europe to integrate, to counterbalance the United States, to be able to step in in geopolitical terms. … You can’t just depend on the US to do everything, especially as China rises, as Russia rises.” …
Funny how the “isolationists” think that “everything” is synonymous with “anything”. And “Europe” has done enough bad things already.

My daughter took the AP World History exam last Thursday.

Not one question about the Hapsburg domains. Not one. Even though Lemberg is making history again.

Oliver Cromwell wanted to unite Europe? Who knew? I’m guessing you are of Irish extraction, and view him as a villain for crushing the Irish Tories who fought for the divine right of the Stuarts to rule over their subjects absolutely, and be answerable to no one but God.

I am thinking a third Crusades. Get every Muzzie out of Europe and work their way towards the middle east and Africa eliminating every Muzzie in their path.

Any EU army will need to employ a common language in order to communicate effectively. What language do you suppose that would be?

Rogoff is an economist, not a lawyer. He has absolutely no expertise in European defense issues.

True. He professionally befuddles people with numbers not words. I beg his pardon.
