“Sure about that?”
I’m reminded of the blind men describing the elephant. People tend to focus on what they know to the exclusion of what they don’t know. I have no idea whether my view of the world, coming as it does from very filtered contacts, represents the real view of the world. I’d have to sample opinions on every topic from eight or nine hundred randomly chosen individuals. I’m white, 60, middle class and there are places I never go, such as bars or strip clubs, but which are nevertheless packed with people. I will never know their views. Neither, most likely, will the author. None of us truly have all the facts. We operate on a necessarily false image of the world that we keep on a shelf in our minds.
