Tea Party Express Jumps Shark, Endorses Illegal Alien Amnesty
FrontPage Mag ^ | May 15, 2014 | Daniel Greenfield

My second biggest complaint about Republican amnesty supporters is how lazy they are.

Take Sal Russo’s big pro-amnesty article. It’s virtually identical to the same amnesty pitches coming in from the GOP over the years.

The only difference is that Russo throws in stuff about “misty-eyed ideals of some of the liberal do-gooder reformers” for cred while championing the exact same amnesty policy.  And he mentions “What is good for America should be the sole criteria for immigration reform.”

What’s good for America somehow involves permanent Democratic Party rule.

It’s six paragraphs of the same stuff about border security (under Obama) and our desperate need for Third World doctors and engineers.

It’s the same tired set of cliches. Stop me if you’ve heard any or all of these.

“The U.S. immigration system is flawed and broken”

“a rational visa policy”

“Border security must be an essential element of any immigration reform.”

These are pre-chewed talking points being vomited up all over again. They’re soulless and lifeless. And it gets worse once Russo makes his amnesty pitch.

Finally, we need to make the 11 million people who are here illegally obey the law, pay taxes and come out of the shadows. We have to get them right by the law in exchange for legal status, but not unbridled amnesty. This should include penalties, background checks to root out criminals, and the requirement that they learn English, understand the Constitution and be committed to our basic freedoms. We must ensure there is no special pathway to citizenship that puts them in front of people who waited in line.

Every dishonest phrase here has already been said by Rubio and co. Every point here has already been discredited. But that doesn’t stop Russo from using the same exact language that was worked out years ago by pollsters and consultants to sell the same rejected message.

At this point I would be more likely to trust an amnesty advocate if he would just admit that he was pitching amnesty, instead of the same old lines about going to the back of the line and no special pathway to citizenship.

Behind it all stands one man. Of course.

Norquist and his guests — Tea Party Express Co-Founder and Strategist Sal Russo, America Online Founder Steve Case and American Conservative Union Chairman Al Cardenas — strained to get the point across that the issue is not dead on Capitol Hill, and that House GOP leaders continue to plod along on a path to bring legislation to the floor.

All that this has really accomplished is to completely discredit Tea Party Express as an arm of the GOP establishment.

On Wednesday evening, Jenny Beth Martin, the co-founder of another leading tea party organization, Tea Party Patriots, released her own statement “clarifying” the group’s stance.

“We support legal immigration and the rule of law, according to the Constitution. There is already a legal path to citizenship for those wishing to come to the United States. Anyone who decides to get off that path and enter the United States illegally should not be given any sort of amnesty because doing so is neither fair nor equal treatment under the law.

“We must also demand the Obama administration enforce our current immigration laws. Those who are determined to have entered the country illegally and are on-track for deportation should be deported. Those who have been convicted of crimes and are serving sentences for their crimes should remain incarcerated until their sentences have been served.

“Conservatives are watching Congress like a hawk and will do everything to make sure immigration reform is done in a manner that respects the law and those who abide by it.”

The big tea party machines were more astroturf than we’d like to admit. Dick Armey and Sal Russo are just two examples of long-time GOP insiders running things.

Sal Russo who has been in GOP politics or PR/consulting for decades was running TPE and he has recently come out as a massive advocate for massive amnesty.

Contentious discussion here...

Exposing Tea Party Express Co-Founder's Amnesty Ties

TPX has made NO statement (that I'm aware of) refuting Sal Russo and his pro-amnesty column. Consequently, its credibility as a TEA Party organization is completely blown as far as I'm concerned.

The Tea Party label is useless. So many people think that all the tea party is about is low taxes for upper-wage earners. Those folks totally abandoned other "tea party" issues after rallying conservatives to their agenda.

For most people I know, the primary thing that needs to be done is send home invaders who are in the US, don't let people into the US illegally or stay here when they shouldn't, and make EVerify the law to make sure jobs are going to US citizens. Groups like TPE do not support anything that cuts into that cheap labor supply.

Solution....there is no tea party. We need to look carefully at the records of candidates who say they're with us in wanting to save the US. They've got the publicity to be viable, it's up to them to articulate the issues and win. There have been so many candidates that said they're conservatives, and just didn't have the principled vision to run a winning campaign.

I just talked about this during the Nebraska primary. If Sarah and Ted Cruz had not endorsed Ricketts, as governor, he would have lost. Ben Sasse had no problem on his own, but the endorsement helped. Everyone, including democrats call themselves conservative and prolife here. They have no problem lying to get into office. If they don't have voting records you can look at what do you do? Nebraska right to life endorses on their word, then they can evolve or skip votes needed to fight abortion, and still call themselves prolife. It's so frustrating.

The Tea Party I’m interested in is the one who is not harping on taxes but is setting its goals on FREEDOM and LIBERTY.

Once that is accomplished, only then can the issue of taxes be addressed and actually changed.

There already is one, and it's toothless and cowardly.

We need “The constitution party”.

There already is one, and it's toothless and cowardly.

It's also "palaeo," isolationist, "reconstructionist" (in the Rushdoonyian mold), and anti-Israel. In short, a front for the John Birch Society.

That is the established party I have wondered if we (true conservatives) could join and take over by numbers and money instead of trying to convince the R’s that our path is the best path. Obviously the republican party does not like us, does not want us and is willing to go down in defeat to communists than include us.

Anyone who says that the illegal aliens need to “come out of the shadows” has been brainwashed by the commie lib “media”. They really need to get out some time and see what’s going on with “the little people.” Believe me, the illegal aliens do not hang out “in the shadows” except for when they are getting ready to rob, rape or kill somebody.

I am really getting tired of having my intelligence insulted by republican pro-amnesty cheerleaders being turned out by the Chamber of Commerce.

Always with a throw-away shot at the 'liberals' and a nudge in the ribs. We're not like 'them' doncha know.

Their arguments fail even a rudimentary logic check yet they never tire of offering them up like we're idiot drones.

Worse, they're taking us to exactly the same place as the progressives are.
