Paul: Barron not qualified for fed bench
Boston Herald ^ | May 20, 2014 | Rand Paul

Harvard Law professor David Barron is a former acting assistant attorney general in the Obama administration. While in President Obama’s Office of Legal Counsel he wrote memos justifying the extrajudicial killing of an American citizen abroad.

Last year, the president nominated Barron to a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and a vote on his nomination is expected this week. I am going to fight this nomination, because I believe Barron has disqualified himself from serving as a federal judge.

I’ve read the Barron memos concerning the legal justification for killing an American citizen overseas without a trial or legal representation. While the president forbids me from discussing what is in the memos, I can tell you what is not in the memos.

Rand Paul may be off the rails lately, but he's exactly right about this.

When your government can kill you based on “metadata” that suggests you are involved in terrorist activity (btw, the government gets to define was “terrorist activity” is), no one who opposes the current administration is safe.

From your keyboard to God’s ears, Rand.

He is right on this one, as well as most others, if people would just look into his actual positions on issues instead of the sound bites.

Mostly the amnesty birds plaster Rand Paul with amnesty cards, yet they have never looked at his actual PLAN for immigration reform. Which, by the way, verifiably SECURES THE BORDER FIRST!

Immigration reform is necessary and will happen and SHOULD happen. Screaming “amnesty, amnesty, amnesty, send them all back to Mexico, the law is the law” isn’t at all helpful. It’s actually ignorant.

We can’t and won’t “send them all back”

We can’t and won’t arrest, try, and jail them all.

A “path to citizenship” is necessary for illegals to come out of the shadows.

It won’t be “amnesty”. There will be consequences and requirements that illegals will have to comply with.

Let me explain Rand Paul’s position on “path to citizenship” a little better.

“Paul envisions that compromise as some sort of legal status — “status and a place for people here so that they can come out of the shadows, let them begin paying taxes, let them not be locked up and having them run from the authorities,” he said. But he said that status would not include the voting rights “that everybody wants.”

Paul envisions that compromise as some sort of legal status — “status and a place for people here so that they can come out of the shadows, let them begin paying taxes, let them not be locked up and having them run from the authorities,” he said. But he said that status would not include the voting rights “that everybody wants.”

He said voting rights could come “someday,” but at this point in the debate the only reform he thinks could pass is a more stripped-down bill.

Send them ALL home and then we can discuss fines and other requirements for them to return.
