McConnell will have a tough race in November, but I think he'll be reelected. Those of you who believe he'll lose based on the fact that there were more Kentuckians voting in the Democratic primary than in the Republican primary are forgetting the mechanics of the situation.

Like most Southern states, Kentucky has considerably more registered Democrats than registered Republicans -- and yet, it has voted consistently Republican at the Presidential and Senatorial levels in recent years. The primaries were closed -- that is, registered Democrats couldn't vote in the Republican primary, nor vice versa. So it is hardly surprising that the total Democratic vote was higher than the total Republican vote.

Consider the 2010 Senate primaries in Kentucky. Rand Paul won the 6-way GOP primary with 58.8% of the vote, and Jack Conway won the 5-way Dem primary with 44.0% of the vote. And note this well: a total of 352,275 votes were cast in the Republican primary; a total of 521,659 votes were cast in the Democratic primary. And yet, Rand Paul prevailed in the general election.

Returning to 2014, I suppose that if I were a Kentucky resident, I'd have voted for Bevin in the primary. But McConnell having defeated him, I'd be on Team Mitch this morning. This year, there is nothing more important than achieving a Republican majority in the Senate.

With Republican control of the Senate (I take continued Republican control of the House as a given), Obama becomes the lamest of lame ducks, a political nonentity. He'd play a lot of golf, which I'd much prefer to him signing legislation. Every Senate Committee, standing or special, would have a Republican majority. And Senate Committees are were bills are born, or more importantly, go to die. With a Republican Senate majority, the chances of running out the clock on a Supreme Court nominee by Obama, should a vacancy arise in the last two years of his term, would be quite good.

Not every Republican will meet the conservative ideal of FReepers, of course. But the larger picture is important. Vote for the most electable conservative in your primary. And if he or she loses, support the Republican winner if you can, based on the national implications.

Mugwumpery rarely ends well.

Some people are basically cheerleading for McConnell to lose, which frankly makes me sick. Such myopia. I guess they’d like the democrats to have about 70 or 80 Senate seats, that would be swell and make America better for sure!

Talk like that makes me sick. No matter how bad Mitch is, all democrats are 200% worse. They band together to slime America, a national effort supported by every seat they win. If you're that put off, don't vote but for God's sake, send Dems money??

Yup. Just means we'll get where we're headed a whole lot quicker. Reinstalling McConnell is idiotic. He's not a Conservative. At least with the other side, we know exactly what we'll get, and we won't have smoke blown up our collective noses in the process. Anyone who isn't running from the GOP right now is part of the problem.

Yes sure, ensure a GOPe majority in the Senate with the same cast of characters that had the majority in 2008. That’s the ticket!

“Scott was never with us “70%” of the time. That is a myth. Here are his conservative ratings”

How about posting the voting record of the person who replaced Brown ?

That would be senator Elizabeth (fauxchohantas or maybe stalinhantas or maybe coocoohantas) Warren.

She’s a terrible candidate, probably has no chance in November. Too bad, with some money her opponent State Rep. Conger could have had a shot.

“ensure a GOPe majority in the Senate with the same cast of characters that had the majority in 2008. That’s the ticket!”

Actually, we lost the senate in 2006. In 2008 we lost even more so the dems got 60 votes and a fillibuster proof majority that they used to pass Obamacare.

Yesirree, OBAMACARE. NOW THAT REALLY IS THE TICKET.

The only reason we don’t have union card check is because Ted Kennedy died and Scott brown was elected in his place and that reduced the democrats to 59 votes.

“She’s a terrible candidate, probably has no chance in November.”

Actually, Wehby has a pretty good chance in November because the democrat is weak.

from foxnews

“Republicans are looking to Wehby, a pediatric neurosurgeon and political newcomer, to pull off an against-the-odds victory in territory where a Republican has not won a statewide election since 2002. However, some believe that first-term incumbent Merkley is vulnerable because he has enthusiastically supported ObamaCare.

The health care reform law is deeply unpopular in Oregon because the state’s exchange has been a disaster. The state abandoned its plans for an independent online exchange after it failed to launch and Cover Oregon and its independent contractor, Oracle Corp., couldn’t fix it.”

Mitch McConnell received a 92 vote rating from the ACU in 2013 and a 100 ACU rating in 2012, and his lifetime ACU rating over his 29 years in the Senate us a tad above 90. Grimey (as she prefers to be called) is a libeal record who surely would compile an ACU score below 10 if disgruntled conservatives cut off their noses, eyes and ears to spite their faces and elect her to the Senate. Senate terms run for six years, so Kentuckians wouldn’t be able to replace her with a conservative until January of 2021 at the earliest, and given how all female Democrats elected to the Senate from Southern and border states during the past 20 years all have been reelected their first time (Landrieu in LA, Lambert Lincoln in AR and McCaskill in MO; Tillis should break the curse by beating Hagan in NC this November), Grimey would have a fighting chance at reelection in 2020 (who would have thought back in 2006 that Tester of MT could have been reelected in 2012?). Oh, and control of the Senate is in the line not only this November, but in 2016 (when Republicans have to defend quite a few competitive seats), so we need not only to capture the Senate this November, but get to 53 or 54 seats so as to keep that majority past 2016.

For these reasons, and many others, it is retarded for conservatives to be considering doing anything other than supporting McConnell’s reelection.

“How about posting the voting record of the person who replaced Brown ?”

What exactly would be the point of that? She’d have no conservative record whatsoever.

Are you suggesting that somebody who votes with you 30% of the time is better than somebody who votes with you 0% of the time. Is that the new argument?

McConnell won his last general election by a bare 6%. That was before he burned his bridges with conservatives. He'll likely lose in November. And good riddance to a liberal republican 'leader'.

A republican controlled senate last time gave us bigger government, bigger spending, and bigger deficits, so your 'majority in the Senate' has historically not proven to provide conservative governance.

All a candidate has to do is be pro-life, pro-gun, against amnesty, against socialized medicine, and have a history of voting for smaller government to get my vote. I'm not looking for a messiah. But the GOP can't even find candidates that supports the party's own platform.

I won't vote for a guy that spent millions attacking conservatives.

Cornyn won his primary, but he'll have to win or lose the general election without my vote.

Yup. . . . At least with the other side, we know exactly what we'll get. . .

Yup, 'with the other side' we'll at least get a 5th liberal Supreme, hell maybe even 6th. And we'll get full censorship on the web, the only thing stopping them right now is elections. And they'll go ahead and make Obamacare straight-up single payer.

Yup, we know exactly what we'll get.

As I told the last freeper who said “at least with a Dem, we’ll know what we’ll get”

We’ll at least get a 5th liberal Supreme, hell maybe even 6th.
We’ll get full censorship on the web, the only thing stopping them right now is elections.
We’ll at least get straight-up single payer.
We’ll at least get outright amnesty

and so on. I don’t think I’m the one who doesn’t understand how this really works.

Just means it's time to buckle down...keep the powder dry. Might I remind you, 2000-2006...we got the Patriot Act. Worked out well, didn't it?

Don't kid yourself. That's going to happen regardless. Doesn't matter who is in the Senate, and it's just as likely to happen with McConnell as without. That was the goal in the first place.

Yeah sure and those 2006/2008 republicans were certainly fiscally responsible weren’t they? And you want to see them back at it in 2014; what a vision.

Obamacare? Last year McConnell voted against it didn’t he? He voted with the dems to shutdown the debates about it and then he safely voted against it to fool his constituents. And this is the type of cretin you want to lead the senate?

No thank you.
