The three-year war in Syria has claimed 162,402 lives, an opposition group said Monday, as the raging conflict shows no signs of abating.
The dead include 8,607 children, according to the the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. It said the total numbers included civilians, military members, defected soldiers and foreign fighters, among others.
United Nations officials said they stopped updating their death toll in July because of lack of access and the inability to verify information from sources.
At the time, it said that well over 100,000 people, including many civilians, have been killed in the war pitting government forces against rebels seeking to end the rule of President Bashar al- Assad.

For three years’ worth of civil war, this is peanuts. The American Civil War killed 800K Americans, or roughly 200K per year, at a time when the US population was roughly the same as Syria’s today.

That's because they were using muzzle-loaders with a 2 to 3 round per minute rate of fire. Syrians are using assault rifles with full auto capability, heavy machine guns, RPG's, grenades, AA guns, mortars, tanks, howitzers, attack choppers and ground attack aircraft. The low rate of lethality comes from the desultory nature of the fighting. We were fortunate in Iraq that Sunni Arabs were far less motivated that the Vietcong.

Any Christians surrounded by Mohamhead madmen should either escape, hide their beliefs or have enough numbers to wipe the muzzys out. Anything else is suicide.
At least Assad protected Christian minorities.
