How Mitch McConnell crushed the tea party
CNN ^ | 05-21-2014 | Peter Hamby

Matt Bevin reaches into the breast pocket of his jacket and extracts a wrinkled, yellow piece of paper. "Fraud Alert," it reads, in alarming, official-seeming font. "Sensitive Materials Enclosed. Please Open Immediately."

A Republican he met received the notice in the mail a few weeks ago and showed it to Bevin, who now carries it with him wherever he goes.

Bevin, Mitch McConnell's tea party-backed Republican primary challenger in Kentucky, flattens it out on the table in the back of a community ballroom in Georgetown where he just addressed the Scott County Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner. The unfolded paper displays a litany of accusations against Bevin: He praised the Wall Street bailout in 2008. He doesn't pay his taxes. He padded his resume.

"This information is provided as a public service," the notice explains. It's an attack mailer from McConnell's re-election campaign, dressed up to look like an official government notice and sent to thousands of GOP primary voters across Kentucky.

I’m reminded of the story in Hitchhikers guide about the planet of humans that always vote for lizards to govern them. They hate the lizards but they always vote for “their lizard” to keep the other sides lizard from winning.

I’m dumping a powerful lizard for a weak one that might actually be defeatable by a human being next time around.

McConnell has/had the tools available to him today to stop the Obama
agenda. It is called a filibuster. Because McConnell is too weak to use
these tools(rules) is his decision.
You don’t need a majority to stop Obama.
McConnell has the tools available to do it now.

The same conservatives he will need to beat Grimes are the same ones
he trashed and crushed. If only a small percent of these conservatives
decide to send McConnell and the GOPe’s a message, McConnell will be
sent packing.

I am amazed at the number of freepers who think the republican party is the conservative hope.

Vote Democrat in November; the GOP-e would.

No. They’ll vote GOP. The two parties are simply playing “good cop, bad cop” with us. There is so little difference in them that I’d rather vote for a democrat. At least they will own this mess when it finally collapses.

Lets see..... a standing minority Senate leader with absolutely overwhelming financial advantage does not get 40% of the vote. Hardly crushing. I'd say in was more like a warning shot from the Tea Party. The MSM spin to make the tea party look bad is almost laughable.

Agree -100%.

Letting the democrats have free rein, doesn’t seem like a smart strategy.

Wouldn’t you love it if the liberals adopted your plan for themselves?

*I am not asking you to like Mitch, I don't particularly like the guy. I am asking you to keep your emotions out of this and think. *

I agree. What he said about the TEA Party is despicable, but he is at least 1000 better than the uber liberal, coal-hating, Obamacare pushing Grimes that running on the (D) for Destruction ticket.

I'm gonna have to hold my nose and vote for Mitch. He at least votes Conservative about half of the time.

that stuff should not be permitted as a misleading advertisement. Yellow journalism as electioneering.

Hi.

Yellow journalism as electioneering.

Yep, and that's why the Fourth Estate has become a Fifth Column.

We haven’t had a Lee or a Cruz in the past. We do now. And a Sasse soon. I’m for more conservative but it is a fact that not electing pubs hasn’t worked either. Reid is the worst ever. By far.

And all of that information is fraudulent, as McConnell and hsi staffers well know.

That’s why the GOP just threw away the seat. Welcome to DC, Senator Grimes.

No. Not if it was GOPe candidates. I would rather the DEMS own the catastrophy which is going to happen no matter who is in charge.

There really is no political solution to our problems. They were cast in stone decades ago. The only thing Obama did was, through his utter incompetence, speed up the death spiral. In a way that is a good thing.

Harry Reid is much much worse.

Actually, they're very similar.

The democrats are perfectly willing to “own” things, everything, they love your idea of total surrender to them.

What’s the difference? Another “conservative” SCOTUS judge?

Yeah, you know, one like Roberts.

Reagan backed Gerald Ford, even though Ford beat Reagan in the primary.

Well you might not like my strategy, but my strategy is infinitely better, on all counts, then YOURS! You advocate surrender to Obama. That is far worse than TEMPORARY acceptance of the GOPe!

It is not surrender to withhold one's vote for a party that does not represent me.
