How Obama Became the Superhero of Excuses (Ron Fournier spanks Ezra Klein)
The National Journal ^ | Wednesday, May 21, 2014 | Ron Fournier

Posted on 05/21/2014 11:13:06 AM PDT by kristinn

You helped elect an untested presidential candidate, a man almost as liberal as you. He promised to heal the oceans, make health care an unalienable right and transform Washington's toxic culture. You mocked Republicans, independents and squishy Democrats who had the audacity to criticize your guy, much less doubt the inevitability of his victory. President Obama won, twice, and then didn't live up to anybody's expectations, including his own.

What do you do? Well, if you're Ezra Klein and a coterie of inflexibly progressive pundits, you re-purpose an attack used against President George W. Bush's bombastic approach to geopolitics. You call anybody who questions Obama's leadership style a Green Lanternist. In a post for Vox stretching beyond 2,500-words, Klein makes his case against Obama critics.

"Presidents consistently overpromise and underdeliver," he begins, a fair start. Surely, the editor-in-chief of Vox is going to make the obvious point that presidents and presidential candidates should know enough about the political process (including the limits on the executive branch) to avoid such a breach of trust.

.....In Washington, we call it pandering. In the rest of the country, it's called a lie. Klein yawns.

SNIP

The launch of the Affordable Care Act and the worsening of conditions at the Department of Veterans Affairs are emblematic of Obama's inattention to the hard work of governing. He is slow to fire poor-serving Cabinet members and quick to dismiss controversies as "phony scandals." To the Obama administration, transparency is a mere talking point. The great irony of his progressive presidency: Democrats privately admit that Obama has done as much to undermine the public's faith in government as his GOP predecessor. The Green Lantern Theory is an excuse for failure.

I’m too busy here at work to do this, but someone needs to craft an “Excuse Man” super hero with a giant “E” on his puny bird like chest.

It isn’t a case of overestimating the power of the President when one hears “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan, period” stated repeatedly by a fellow who knows it’s a lie. It’s a case of a liar.

I disagree with Ron on the notion that there has been a rightward march of the GOP.

In the 1990's Republicans AGREED that the budget should be balanced, welfare ended, marriage involved one man and one woman, citizens could not be detained without due process, etc. These values were scarcely contested.

Twenty years later, the GOP has given less ground than the Dem's, but BOTH parties have drifted left.

It shows the power of the MSM.

Every problem in the last 6 yrs is “Bush’s fault”.
Every problem from 2001-2008 was “Bush’s fault”.

No problem was attributed to BJ or Baraq.

Yeah, but only by about a half inch.

Well, of course nothing is ever the fault of the left. They have good intentions, so they can’t be measured by the results of their policies. /sarc

That would be racist, etc.

At some point the 800lbs gorilla in the room becomes impossible to explain or defend. It is obvious the house is trashed, and there is nothing left to do but shoot the gorilla and begin to clean up the mess.

That would make a great comic.

Every panel has someone coming to Obama with a problem and his punchline is always “I will not rest until your problem is solved” and then he goes to luch or dinner or to sleep or whatever (depending on the time of day)

I'm pretty sure that Ezra would like that.

Baraq’s golf scores are as well buried as his SATs and LSATs.

Even Edward Snowden can’t get them leaked....

And his Indonesian passport, and his real-deal BC.

Good point. I often wonder about the mental gymnastics these ‘Progressives’ have to do to justify that it’s ALL President Bush’s fault, meaning he’s all powerful. And President Obama is held harmless, because it’s ALL Congress’ fault.
I hope the water from the well they spat in tastes very bitter.
