The National September 11 Memorial & Museum hosted a black-tie, invite-only affair Tuesday night. Among the swanky attendants were former Mayor Bloomberg and Condé Nast honchos. Family members of Sept. 11, 2001, victims are appalled anyone would celebrate on sacred ground.

I also think this was in bad taste. It’s not unusual to have the wine-and-brie crowd or other bigwigs at a ceremonial opening for a museum or other big public building, of course. But this isn’t just some other museum. At least in my view, it isn’t. This museum stands on sacred ground, and is a tribute to the fallen in the darkest day my country saw in my lifetime. To me, this seems tantamount to having a picnic at Arlington National Cemetery or opening a poolside bar in the waters above the USS Arizona. It just doesn’t seem right to me.

I wouldn’t have had a problem with this if done after the period that it was supposed to be open 24/7 for relatives of those who died and first responders but what person or group of persons would have been so unwise as to schedule it for this period?

what person or group of persons would have been so unwise

Persons who, by virtue of their wealth, live in a bubble of self-satisfaction in which it never occurs to them that anyone could consider any action of theirs to be in poor taste.

The museum makes it operating money by selling t- shirts, admissions, and contributions for the rich. This is a reality. My friend visited the museum and said it was awe inspiring.

The gift shop is built over the area in which 5000 bodies are stored and waiting for identification. Commerce to support a bloated organization on the ceiling of the tomb of unknowns.

I hadn’t known there will still bodies there - why are they storing them onsite?

That’s what is called hyperbole. There was a little under 3,000 people killed that day; in the air, at New York, at the Pentagon, and in a field in Pennsylvania.

Some bodies were not and cannot be recovered, though. That part is true enough.

That should be body parts not bodies. No coffee yet. This article explains it well: http://nypost.com/2014/05/18/outrage-over-911-museum-gift-shops-crass-souvenirs/

the darkest day my country saw in my lifetime.

NYC is in Europe, not America. It's AINO central, full of AINOs.

On Levin the sister of one of the pilots on the “Lets Roll” flight in PA called on to clarify... She was at that event and had a much more subdued take. It seems the NY Daily News was overly sensational.

Sorry darling, but it is, after all, just about them. Can one plumb the depths of their narcissism and find bottom?

~Not likely. There will be more muck and darkness, but no end to it.

“Many on the left want to minimize the event because it doesnt fit their agenda.”

And they want to make as much money from it as they can; 9/11 has become an indstry unto itself, and it started right after the attack. A friend drove his dump truck over there to help with the clearing, and was told he could leave the truck but couldn’t drive it because he wasn’t unionized. I know this person first-hand.

Afterwards Giuliani wanted to get the firemen out while the debris removal proceeded, but firemen insisted on having an “honor guard” available for any firemen’s bodies retrieved. Between the OT costs and the subsequent lawsuits over breathing contaminated air, it became a massive swindle. 9/11 initially brought out the best in people in the NYC metro area, and has since brought out the worst.

I believe this was the museum that was initially going to be free admission, then somebody stuck a price on it; I’d never go.

Bloomberg is such an Ahole. It’s right up his alley to do something so tasteless and disrespectful.

Still no place for a party. Subdued or not. If they had a religious gathering that would be appropriate.
