McConnell vows ‘free-wheeling’ Senate under his leadership

Fresh off his resounding Republican primary victory Tuesday night, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Thursday laid out a broad vision of what the Senate would look like under his control.

Bottom line, McConnell, wouldn’t run the way Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., runs it now, the Kentucky Republican told the center-right American Enterprise Institute.

‘A Senate majority under my leadership would break sharply from the practices of the Reid era in favor of a more free-wheeling approach to problem solving,’ McConnell said in a speech. ‘I would work to restore (the Senate’s) traditional role as a place where good ideas are generated, debated and voted upon. We’d fire up the committee process. We’d work longer days and weeks, using the clock to force consensus.’

And McConnell’s money shot: ‘In marked contrast to the Reid era, we would allow an open amendment process – ensuring senators on both sides a chance to weigh in on legislation and alleviating the frustration that inevitably results when they can’t.’

No.

Hell no.

As far as I'm concerned Reid has set the gold standard in effective management of a Majority in the US Senate and his tactics and methods should be the grist of Poly Sci debates for the next century.

The Republicans haven't even won yet...and they have already surrendered.

And folks wonder why the GOP always loses ground.

McConnell will share power with Rustler Reid, if reelected.

I do not think that McConnell is going to be in the 2015 Senate. I do know that if I was a Conservative in Kentucky, hell would freeze over before I would vote for him.

If Kentucky Conservatives have any principles, the chances of McConnell being reelected are slim.

Yep. He would.

But there's a good chance that the Dems will take his seat, especially after his scorched earth treatment of conservatives.

Either way, Reid will get his votes, whether it's McConnell or Grimes.

Reid read and understood Il Principe and implements its lessons on a quotidian basis.

McConnell read and was challenged by "Freddie and the Baseball Team from Mars." A Senate under his "leadership" will be a monument to Misrule and fecklessness.

What McConnell is saying is he is ready to work deals with the democrats
to screw the American people. I fail to see how this will motivate pissed
off KY conservatives to vote for him.

"Reid read and understood Il Principe and implements its lessons on a quotidian basis. "

I doubt he's ever read a book.

I think he's a natural.

I wish he was on our side. He has more fight and commitment than the entire GOP Caucus.

Says nothing about what he actually stands for. He’s more concerned about the process than the results.

Surely under McConnell's “leadership” the Senate will start reading the Constitution out loud at the beginning of new legislative sessions and then ignore it, just like the RINO-controlled House does.

On the other hand, a Republican-controlled Senate is a step towards restoring the constituitonally limited power federal government.

Thank you for your post. The Gobbler mentions nothing about finding
the truth about Benghizi. And the death of 4 Americans.

I hope KY conservatives send this hack packing by ANY political means.

You may well be right on that point, FRiend! But I stand by my characterization of Mitch (Crush the Tea Party) McConnell).

Why couldn't he crush the 'Rats instead?
