The Obama administration seems to have forgotten the International Day of the Family last week that was celebrated at the UN and around the world May 15. Yet the administration was very enthusiastic about the May 17th celebration of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, issuing proclamations by the Secretary of Defense and a statement by the President. Moreover, at least one ambassador flew the rainbow flag over his embassy. Spanish papers reported that the rainbow flag flew over the U.S. Embassy in Madrid for at least one day last week and that former Home Box Office executive, now openly gay U.S. Ambassador James Costos flew the rainbow flag over his official residence. President Obama compared gay rights to the fight for civil rights of African-Americans: This year, the United States celebrates the 60th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, and the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall riots. In doing so, we reflect on lessons learned from our own civil rights struggles and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that the human rights of all people are universally protected.

America used to promote freedom and democracy throughout the world. Now we promote deviancy and homosex.
It’s funny how I used to naturally laugh at those idiot Iranian leaders who’d always refer to America as the “Great Satan.” But heck if it doesn’t look like we’re doing our best to actually live up to that moniker. Between the moral degenerates running our government and the vile poison of the pop-culture we export, we’re hardly worthy of the respect we once had, from vicinities either foreign or domestic.
It breaks my heart. I was born in Madrid and lived there until I got my student visa for the US (and never looked back). The US embassy was almost like a sanctuary to me, holding the keys to the promised land. I loved sitting in the waiting room gawking at the Marine in dress uniform on guard duty (hey, what can you expect from a teenage girl?) The idea that the rainbow flag was flying over the embassy is a personal blow for me.
