I once had someone correct the way I said “Oregon”. Seems I had said ‘Ore-gun’ (which is how it’s spoken in Oregon) instead of calling it ‘Ore-gone’ (which is how it is spoken in New York City - the only city that matters).
My response:

"Seems I had said Ore-gun'..." From Dictionary.com = Or·e·gon [awr-i-guhn, ‐gon, or‐] In any event, the vernacular is acceptable when discussing birds, States or anything else. The goal is communication. I say 'Or-gun' as well and nobody has ever had a problem understanding me. Grammer nags are so tedious.
