USDA warns of sticker shock on U.S. beef as grilling season starts

The Department of Agriculture has warned of sticker shock facing home chefs on the eve of the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the unofficial start of the U.S. summer grilling season.

The agency said conditions in California could have "large and lasting effects on U.S. fruit, vegetable, dairy and egg prices," as the most populous U.S. state struggles through what officials are calling a catastrophic drought.

The consumer price index (CPI) for U.S. beef and veal is up almost 10 percent so far in 2014, reflecting the fastest increase in retail beef prices since the end of 2003. Prices, even after adjusting for inflation, are at record highs.

Again, Obamanomics proves it is a disaster.

Imagine men and women who earn a wage having MORE in their pocket--having jobs--having the resources to afford more and better food.

Imagine a policy of low priced energy--no taxpayer dollars pissed away on wind mills or bankrupt solar companies...and men and women who have JOBS can pay for gasoline...much of it made from petroleum resources found here in America.

Imagine the transportation costs for foodstuffs being lower because of the low energy prices.

Just imagine.

Imagine a good relationship with other food producing nations and their allies, instead of tension with: China, Russia, Israel, Turkey, the entire EU, etc.

Now look at your wallet, shrinking wages, increased health care costs, and energy prices.

Obama is a disaster, and HE is more to blame for higher food prices than a "drought"....because other segments of the economy are hurting because of his policies, the absorption of higher food prices is more difficult.

Obamanomics: the mover and shaker behind your higher food prices.

Enjoy, America.

I guess what the USDA is really saying is that the inflated price of meats, will pay for all those automatic weapons they ordered?

If we like our hamburger, we can keep our hamburger... we just won't be able to afford it.

The USDA does not have to tell me meat prices have gone up
I can clearly read the price per pound labels.

Like $10.99 per pound for Sirloin... Yes Sirloin.

Deer is good and cheap. Learn to process yourself. It is easy. Deer burgers are great. Have to put a little beef fat in cause it is usually too lean to stick together good.

Much of this due to the ethanol mandate.

More grain for fuel production = less for cattle feed.

Good thing that food is no longer a component of the inflation index.

This only effects people who arn’t on welfare.

With an ebt card you get meat free or at least, very heavily subsidized. So they don’t feel the hit and will keep voting democrat.

Insidious

Again, Obamanomics proves it is a disaster.

Obamanomics did not cause the disaster in the beef industry this year as much as an untimely snowstorm did costing an estimated 100,00 cattle.

What a pantload.

10% at the retail level? That's a real truckload of crapolla. A lot more than 10%. Remember how the Office of Propaganda figures meat inflation. If you were buying ground round they figure you can now buy bottom of the line ground beef as a substitute for the round, so your cost for ground meat did not go up nearly as much because you are now forced to buy a cheaper, lower quality cut.

Where I am, ground chuck has gone up a net 10% in the last month to six weeks.

If you look at the price of cattle, up about 50% in 12 months (6% since May 1), that will give you an idea of the prices coming down the pike in the near future.

Governments are the root and primary cause of inflation. Always have been, always will be.

i call bs on that...beef prices spiked within the last couple years, seemingly with the rise in ethanol mandates...

Obamanomics: the mover and shaker behind your higher food prices.

kenyanesian economics in place for decades is coming home to roost...

good thing food and fuel costs arent figured into inflation stats anymore eh ???

this trend didnt begin with the 0bamabam, but it sure is increasing exponentially today...
