WASHINGTON (AP) -- Setting his sights on Republicans who reject climate change, an environmentalist billionaire is unveiling plans to spend $100 million this year in seven competitive Senate and gubernatorial races, as his super PAC works to counteract a flood of conservative spending by the Koch brothers.
NextGen Climate Action said it plans to spend at least $50 million contributed by founder Tom Steyer, a retired hedge fund manager and longtime Democratic donor, and another $50 million the group is seeking to raise from likeminded donors. The money will be used to back Democrats and attack Republicans running for Senate in New Hampshire, Iowa, Colorado and Michigan, and for governor in Pennsylvania, Florida and Maine.
"Our goal is very clear: to impact the politics as it relates to climate in a time period that will result in policies that allow our country and the world to avoid the perils of climate change," said Chris Lehane, a Democratic strategist advising the super PAC. "In a sense, it's a race against time."

I was going to say this is the biggest waste of money since....but after we sent $250 million dollars of taxpayer grants to the state of Oregon to build a healthcare website (not open a health center, but build a website!), that sets a far higher bar for wasteful spending. Especially since that website managed to enroll only zero (that’s right, zero) people!
Good, love to see the left waste their money.
So what?
What about the economic catastrophe that will result from your useless efforts to curb climate change?
What about all of the millions that will starve because of the economic chaos caused by your ecologic regulations?
Climate change has always occurred and there is nothing mankind can do to stop it. Get over yourselves and allow men to live free.
Seriously, any lib lurkers out there that actually believe the science is settled, that 97% of climate scientists agree, {snort, yes we all know that one was debunked} etc. etc. If you believe that, try this simple one minute thought experiment.
If the science is truly settled, if the research, data, and evidence is so overwhelming that there is no doubt global warming, climate change, etc. is occurring and mankind and our naughty CO2 emissions are to blame... Ok, then what are climate scientists doing? Why haven't their government sponsors, universities, and think tanks said "Great job, wonderful work, thanks...the cardboard boxes are in the hall please have your desks cleaned out by next Tuesday."
I mean, hey, according to Gore and the rest of the true believers we're done, no further debate needed, just send money and power and control...
Well, either these scientists are taking money under false pretenses, defrauding the people paying the bills... Or the real scientists know there is a lot we don't know and the science is anything but settled.
OK, rant mode off... Where were we? Oh yeah, spending money... not on science, but on political influence. The problem with climate science these days isn't the climate, the science, nor the scientists. It is the agenda-driven hacks that have politicized and hijacked the issue for their own purposes.
Chris Lehane is a former Masshole Dem supporter of J effinn k as I recall
No mention his hedge fund made big bucks on Indonesian and Australian coal, he opposed Keystone to keep competition out; crone capitalist of first rank, oligarch and nomenklaturist rolled into 3 inches of subcu fat and a thin pimply skin.
Not to mention he is one butt ugly dog as I recall.
Then they can blame the next President, sure to be a Republican, for the economic chaos that is sure to follow.
The commie pigs need their global warming scam to work to put a nail in the coffin of capitalism and freedom.
Only if you consider "the love of money" a religion!
It's frightening, the amount of taxpayer money these parasites must be looking forward to, to invest $100M on trying to make this fraud happen!
So is trying to figure out who has that kind of money to speculate with.
Let’s call them what they are folks, Eco-profiteers.
The Denver Post is already has ads from this group targeting Cory Gardner, who is running against Mark Udall.
They are trying to shame Cory for being a denier.
Cory Gardner needs to stand up and take the offensive on this. It is time to make this an issue and pound Udall on it.
