Herein lies the problem for the environmentalist these days, and this is likely to be one of several important factors in the demise of the whole movement. Once you convince people that something is "inevitable," you've effectively told them that it's a waste of time to even give a damn about it anymore. I suspect this is one reason why environmental issues are never important to most people.

Pretty much sums it up. That’s also the problem too, saying, like my professor was willing to say, that “it’s a manageable issue” makes a world of difference.
