Pelosi Resorts to "Blame Bush" On VA Scandal

During the George W. Bush Administration, progressives were hailing the Veterans Affairs health system as a model health organization. Now that it's come out that the VA suffers from the same bureaucratic nightmares that all socialized-style systems do, progressives want to roll back the clock on their rhetoric.

Luckily, Nancy Pelosi has found the real person whose fault it is: George W. Bush. As Joel Gehrke reports:

Pelosi took a shot at Bush while saying that the scandal is a high priority for Obama. "He sees the ramifications of some seeds that were sown a long time ago, when you have two wars over a long period of time and many, many more, millions more veterans," she told reporters during her Thursday press briefing. "And so, I know that he is upset about it."

The Democratic leader never mentioned Bush by name, but she alluded to him early and often in the press briefing.

"Maybe when we go into war, we should be thinking about its consequences and its ramifications," Pelosi said while discussing the scandal. "You would think that would be a given, but maybe it wasn't. And so, we go in a war in Afghanistan, leave Afghanistan for Iraq with unfinished business in Afghanistan. Ten years later, we have all of these additional veterans. In the past five years, two million more veterans needing benefits from the VA. That's a huge, huge increase."

She suggested that Obamacare might hold the key to solving the problem.

So: during the Bush years, progressives loved the VA system and suggested its centralized and socialized nature were what held the key to fixing the rest of the American health system. Now that it's politically toxic, they've moved on - blaming George W. Bush for its problems and suggesting that their shiny new toy, Obamacare, is the solution.

Both parties are to blame, for allowing this to happen. They need to own it.

As for fixing it, first of all bust the public service unions that have a death grip on the system.

Is it really anybody’s fault? Or is it the government/socialist system?

Did Bush come up with the idea of -- in effect -- paying VA employees bonuses for hiding patients on secret waiting lists? I doubt it.

The bureaucratic nightmare aspect of the VA must go back to the VA's inception.

I realize Nancy has never had a close encounter with the truth - but - it still boggles my mind that she has no sense of shame with her idiotic statements.

Any sane person realizes that both parties have screwed our veterans. It is a constant.

"He sees the ramifications of some seeds that were sown a long time ago

So, because problems at the VA began before Obama took office, hhas absolutely no obligation to take any action to fix the problem, even 6 years into his administration - is that what we're supposed to believe?

If things are going bad at your job, and you were asked for an explanation, what would your boss say if you replied: "it's not my fault, it's the fault of the guy who worked here six years ago."

I hate to say this...but I’m sure he was way smarter than she is...even though he chose a screwball political party that was directly responsible for genocide of millions...she’s trying to catch up...

Blame Bush, blame the Dems, blame whoever you want. The bottom line is a large bloated bureaucracy let a lot of people down. This is why Republicans are against socialized medicine, education, economies, etc etc. Things always tend towards maintaining the health of the bureaucracy rather than the task the bureaucracy was created to handle. The VA thing points this out so clearly, if this doesn't change people's attitudes, nothing will.

Remember that America kills over a million of its own children every year: pretty much all due to Pelosi and the party of Moloch.

If you’re hired to coach a bad team and the team is still bad six years later, who’s fault is it? Plus, Obama made fixing the VA one of his main issues in the 2008 election. He provides more empty rhetoric than any politician in modern history. It’s clear Obama views his job as undermining the GOP, raising money, and playing golf. In his mind, Anything beyond those three tasks is not only not his job, it’s not even his poblem. He doesn’t run the government in any meaningful way and he bever will. It bores him.

Sad to say - the VA has been “broken” for a very long time. In the late 70’s I was training as a tech in 4 hospitals, and a VA was one of them. *One was state owned, one private, one county and then the VA.

It was my absolute least favorite rotation. As a child of a career Navy Dad, the “good enuf for gubmint purposes” mindset that was, even then - Everywhere there, infuriated me.

The complete disrespect meted out to those good men/women was appalling, and it does not surprise me that today, many have been left to die.

May God keep watch over them, because their government surely will not.

Obama doesn't want to be president, he just wants to be a celebrity.
