Obama to Troops: Out of Afghanistan by Year’s End

BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (AP) — On a surprise visit to Afghanistan, President Barack Obama pledged Sunday to bring America’s longest war to a “responsible end” by the close of the year. He promised a decision soon on keeping a small contingent of troops to help protect gains made over nearly 13 years of combat.

He told troops at this sprawling military base that the war had reached a pivotal point, with Afghan forces assuming primary responsibility for their country’s security. By 2015, many of the 32,800 American forces now in Afghanistan will depart.

“For many of you, this will be your last tour in Afghanistan,” Obama said as hundreds of U.S. troops inside an airplane hangar erupted in applause. “America’s war in Afghanistan will come to a responsible end.”

Obama secretly slipped in Afghanistan under the cover of darkness for his first trip to the war zone since 2012.

Obama was spending just a few hours on the base and had no plans to go to Kabul, the capital, to meet with Hamid Karzai, the mercurial president who has had a tumultuous relationship with the White House.

Again, the US would be doing a humanitarian act by defoliating all of the poppy crops in Afghanistan — as we pull out.

He must have gotten his kickback on the billions Karzai has stolen from U.S. Taxpayers, so no need to hang around.

Once again NoBama will have America sprint out of a country with its tail between its legs. Don’t leave any troops behind; they’ll just be a sacrifice. Better yet, leave the Democrip troops behind and you, NoBama, go there and personally command them - yeah, that’ll make you look like a big shot! Voters will be so impressed.

Emotional and girly, he got dissed at the airport so THIS is what we get.

Hey I’m fine with it, but don’t be deceived that this was a sober move after infinite consultation with the geniuses.

GayMuzzie got dissed, so THIS is his tizzy, plain and simple.

Presidency per pick up game rules, if you will.

Great, surrender again. Peace in our time....

I wonder how many troops it will cost us to clean up that cesspool next time. Not to mention Iraq III. No wonder we have a hard time convincing people to work with us.

Agree..problem is we have an immasculated public no longer able to stomach the necessities of what it takes to wage and win a savage and grueling war. We live in an age of instant gratification and wussification of America. If we’d go back to the days of warning complete decimation if you do not submit and then cash in on that promise this war would have ended year 1. However we care about feelings and instead should be carpet bommbing all villages until they submit. Just my 2 cents.

“Can we just stop with the ‘nation building’, already?”

Yes, but it might not be a good idea to telegraph our intentions to those who would like to again use Afghanistan as a base of operations to launch terrorist attacks against us. IMHO it would have been much better for him to have said that we were beginning a tentative drawback of troops in Afghanistan, contingent upon the ability and success of Afghanistan forces to suppress any attempts of radicals to reestablish themselves there.

the main thing wrong with all this is that it is a myth that we are leaving Afghanistan with a mission accomplished, because we aren’t because the coward Obama did not have the courage of any conviction to just admit we ought to leave it to the Afghans and instead demanded a force and force structure that could neither route the Taliban or adequately train and equip the Afghan government forces

it has been a sham process meant to perpetuate an image and not much else

making the U.S. deaths during the Obama years the morally worst of all because the CIC was never in it to win it in the first place;

‘nation building”

My town’s middle school could use an auditorium.
But there’s been no money for it since we’ve been pouring blood and treasure into that s***-hole for over ten years.
Nation-building should begin in America, in places that pay taxes, not Thirdworldistans that hate our guts.
Whoever wants my vote had better understand that.

Obama secretly slipped in Afghanistan under the cover of darkness for his first trip to the war zone since 2012.

How is this accomplished? You can't come in from the North. The only route I can think of, without flying into someone's ADIZ, is down the Atlantic, over Antarctica, up to Afghanistan. Pakistan would have to be told.
