USA Freedom Act Gutted Before House Passage; Heads to Senate

The New American
26 May 2014

The USA Freedom Act — written in its original form by Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) and designed to ban the omnipresent collection of private U.S. citizens’ data by the NSA without a judicial warrant — was passed in gutted form May 22. The act is likely to be further watered down as it heads to the Senate, as senators have generally been less skeptical of warrantless surveillance of Americans than have members of the House.

The House passed the bill by a 303-121 vote, with a majority in both parties in favor of it.

According to the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), the bill was amended and “no longer prohibits bulk collection of communications records. Other key provisions were also removed.”

Thanks alot Republican pukes. We can always count on you to stand against the people and against the constitution when it matters. When choosing between freedom and power, Republicans always side with authority. This is so typical of todays Republican party and why I have no respect and no interest for voting for them.

Those who vote for less freedom and privacy deserve none.

Experience has made me very leery of any piece of legislation called the “Freedom” Act.

"The Democrats and Liberals, and Obama, especially, will not be happy until we are a full totalitarian state"

As the article points out, a majority of republicans and a majority of democrats voted for the legislation, which infers that a minority of both parties voted against.

It has nothing to do with political parties or being liberal/conservative. It has to do with foreign policy doctrines.

The Liberal Interventionists(D), the NeoCons(R), and the Realists(R&D) support NSA eavesdropping. The antiwar democrats and the isolationist republicans oppose

The people voting for or against this ARE members of the government.
