Sawant said the 15 Now campaign continues to unite low-wage workers and raise awareness for the UWs unequal wages.
In a recent New York Times article, Student Debt Grows Faster at Universities with Highest Paid Leaders, the UW was cited as one of the most unequal of public universities. The report defines unequal as universities that not only have high executive pay, but also high levels of student debt, as well as low-wage and contingent faculty labor.
Its important for workers to be in solidarity. UW gets state funding, but its run like a corporation, Sawant said. Its shameful for a university of this size to keep 800 workers under $15 an hour, while the president gets $750,000 and head of Facilities makes $270,000.

less and less and less jobs for American people

less and less and less jobs for American people
the policies of this administration are killing our jobs!
(and putting more and more and more Americans on welfare)
The latter two are probably not worth what they're paid - but that has nothing to do with whether the 800 are worth $15 an hour. "Equality" is a two-year-old's idea of morality.
Most union contract wages are tied to the prevailing minimum. When the minimum goes up 20%, all the union wages also go up 20%. So even though it looks like the unions are rooting for the little guy, it just ain't so.
And these provisions have been in place for years, through many contract renewals, and are unlikely to disappear.
When I attended the University of Washington in 1965 the tuition per quarter was $115 and the minimum wage was $1.25. Any able-bodied male could work his way through school. There was a student employment office which posted private sector jobs of all sorts. You could work weekends if you wanted or take off and do something else if you didn’t. What I came away with was a false sense of comfort that jobs were no big deal because they were so plentiful! But the democrats were just beginning to work their socialist magic!
