The 2014 Republican primaries have been good for incumbents and the GOP establishment over Tea Party candidates. Texas is having none of that. In Tuesday's GOP primary runoff elections, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst lost his bid for re-election to state Sen. Dan Patrick, a former talk radio host backed by Tea Party groups. This is Dewhurst's second big loss to the Tea Party — he was upset by Ted Cruz in the 2012 GOP primary for U.S. Senate. Patrick will face state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte (D) for the unusually powerful Texas lieutenant governorship.
The Tea Party also won in the race for state attorney general, with state Sen. Ken Paxton beating state Rep. Dan Branch for the GOP nod. And former U.S. Attorney John Ratcliffe, backed by the conservative Club for Growth and Senate Conservatives Fund, unseated 91-year-old Rep. Ralph Hall (R).
The state's Democratic establishment fared somewhat better. In the uphill race to defeat Sen. John Cornyn (R), Democrats nominated Dallas dentist David Alameel over Lyndon LaRouche Democrat Kesha Rogers, who has called for President Obama's impeachment and campaigned with photos of Obama sporting a Hitler mustache. - - Peter Weber

Wow what are the odds on that? With a name like Dan Patrick (having two first names) and both being former radio talk show hosts it’s got to be one in a billion odds of this coincidence.

Is it a charming village, big city, small town? What do you guys do for fun and work? Kids? School concerns?

I just read in another article he tried to nail Patrick on hiring illegals in a sports bar he worked at back in the 80s. Talk about grasping at straws and for him to suggest he ran a clean campaign IS laughable.
We met some fine conservative transplants from MI at our Republican polling place yesterday. Bring your money and conservative votes, but NEVER tell us that it was better where you came from. You have to be tough to live in some parts of the state due to the severe weather, but we thank God for air conditioning, and we carry on.
I live in Baltimore and work in Alexandria (VA). Pretty much ensconced in the liberal stronghold of the DC/Baltimore megalopolis. It’s tiresome and I might not mind a lot of rattlers, scorpions and tumbleweeds in a trade.

From what I understand from Texas FReepers, it’s a result of Reconstruction and the constitution that was rewritten at that time.
If it works for the people and power is checked, that’s fine.
Our Dan is still in the business. He owns a radio station and still does some broadcast, sharing news from the Texas Senate.

Hey, you forgot rabies, dengue, fire ants, killer bees, leprosy, chaga's disease, hanta virus, West Nile, bubonic plague, Formosan termites, and Crazy Raspberry ants...I'm sure I've forgotten some of the other plagues. flora, and fauna.
You forgot to mention the gigantic, aggressive bugs. I spent one summer at NTSU and the humidity was horrid. Between the heat and the inhospitable wildlife, I am convinced I don’t want to live there. I made my TX husband promise me that I never have to do so. ;)

I miss the Northeast every day. The climate and environment, but not the politics and not the cost of living.
Raising kids here and living in a decent home/neighborhood is worth the wildlife and the oppressive heat.
The summer is like winter. It’s too much. But so is snow.
My friends go to the beach in Delaware and New Jersey in the summer. That’s the answer if possible.
Texans are not great about welcoming northeasterners, but it’s better than it was. I could never run for public office here, I don’t think.
There are plenty of liberals here, don’t kid yourself. San Antonio just lost its mayor to Obama’s Cabinet. He’ll run for VP or so; and they usher the illegals around like they’re wonderful a little too much for my liking.
The cost of living and availability of activities and good private schools and good State colleges is the draw.
Public schools are run by Washington, like everywhere. And Bush was the king of no child left behind which is a problem. Lots of liberal indoctrination there. Texas is not in charge of how their kids are being educated, Washington is, so I emphasize, private schools.
There are some very nice neighborhoods in Houston. It is the city here that reminds me of the Northeast.

As to hot and dry? We have great weather here about 8 months out of the year. The other four month is definitely HOT. Depending where you live...dry or humid to warm wet blanket humid. yuk.
