If it had been some gay activist or something Obama would have gotten him out pronto. But, since it's a Marine, he doesn't give a darn.
They could start by issuing a travel advisory warning all Americans against traveling to Mexico. If that doesn't do anything, after a couple of days close the border to all US-passport holders (so Mexico would be like Cuba, or Cold War Albania, a country Americans are not allowed to travel to). If that doesn't work, close the border crossings to all travelers until the Marine is returned to the US safe and sound.

We drove all the way from Kansas to the west coast of Mexico some 30 years ago with another couple. One of the things the insurance agent at the border told us was that we needed to take some extra cash with us and if ever stopped by the police just hand over some of it and they would let us go. We did get stopped in Guadalajara, guy who was driving our car quietly handed the cop five twenty dollar bills in a plain envelope when he handed him his driver’s license. Cop apologized, returned the license and we were on our way.
But that was then. Now we wouldn’t even fly over the country.

Sorry, you missed the biggest one - and the one that causes me the most pain: after 9/11. The country was scared and pi$$ed, and GWB was at the height of his popularity. We had the excuse and should have used it.
The argument was that if we sealed the Mexican boarder and not the Canadian, we would have been saying it was about nationality and not preventing terrorist from entering. So seal them both. If that’s what it takes, it should have been done.
