Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo today unveiled sweeping legislation he said will give the Bay State the “most effective” gun laws in the country in a long-awaited roll-out spurred by the horrific Newtown school shootings 18 months ago.

The bill, called the state’s most comprehensive since 1998 by House leaders, adds the state to a nationwide criminal background database and, for the first time, allows local police chiefs discretion in licensing owners for shotguns and rifles. The legislation also bans the private sale of guns without a licensed gun dealer and requires gun owners to list all the guns they own each time they renew their license.

Heads up Mass. Make your list and check it twice to make sure all your firearms are listed. And don't forget to fess up with an ammo count and where and when each round is expended and why. Brass must be turned if when done shooting for the year. What the heck Mr. and Mrs. Massachusetts, just turn them in so the state can do one big "buy back".

the “most effective” gun laws in the country

Effective at disarming law-abiding citizens. Just what government and other criminals want.

Liberals enjoy getting people killed. It provides the emotional impetus to further their political agendas.

We are quickly becoming a nation where the 2nd amendment only applies if you are lucky enough to live in a state that respects it. If any other constitutional right was dealt with in such a manner the courts would be striking down these laws left and right...

Yep. The turnout at the Bundy ranch was a warning to governing authorities in the entire country. There are plenty of people out there that are ready to risk it all. For a huge number it is because they have little left to risk.

Americans once loved freedom. Now we are immoral, fat, lazy, stupid, and embrace tyranny. God will punish us for squandering His blessings and the legacy of our forefathers.

Yet not one of these proposed laws would have done a thing to prevent what happened at Newton. That should give you an idea of what the real agenda is here.

Hey Bobby - why is it none of you zipperheads ever address the very real problem with gangs and their illegal acquisition and use of guns? Or don’t you have gangs in Baastin?

Newly proposed law by DeLeo: Five to ten years for THINKING about a gun.

The patriots in Massachusetts graves must be turning like tops at the actions of these degenerate political strumpets.

...allows local police chiefs discretion in licensing owners for shotguns and rifles.

Translation: If you manage to p*** off one of the local cops, or don't show them (what they consider) enough respect, or maybe just forget to make a yearly donation to the officers association. You can forget about having any 2nd amendment rights...

And for others it’s because they’re not about to let their children grow up as slaves.

I’m not in Mass but I’d tell DeLeo to do something biologically impossible. What about our inalienable rights he does not understand? BTW, he can keep his dirty, stinkin paws off our guns.

Perhaps they can have the signing ceremony for this legislation on Lexington Green or the North Bridge in Concord. Maybe invite Queen Elizabeth so DeLeo can personnally extend his appologies on behalf of the people of Massachusetts for all that trouble back in April of 1775.
