A measure that would allow legislators to carry concealed weapons in all public buildings except the Louisiana Capitol is nearing final passage after receiving House approval on Tuesday.
The House voted 79-12 to back the bill by Franklin Sen. Bret Allain, a Republican who argues lawmakers need the privilege because they often face threats of violence. Under the bill, lawmakers would be exempt from a law barring concealed weapons in most public buildings.

I'm for this, not because I think legislators should have special privileges, but because it is the camel's nose under the tent. Once this is in place they will have a very hard time arguing that only legislators should have this privilege. You've got to eat the elephant one bite at a time.

The amendment forcing THEM to live under the same rules AS US is long overdue. No law can be written where they exempt themselves. PERIOD.

No special privileges for legislators.
We all face threats of violence, some of them from the government.

Apparently the concept of "equal protection" is beyond the mental capacity for the politicians elected to represent the people of that state. Lots of people are at risk of violent attack. Those who are most acutely aware should be able to defend themselves by possessing a firearm. What makes a politician more special than any other citizen?

The NEXT constitutional amendment needs to say that lawmakers cannot exempt themselves from any law that applies to the general citizenry and cannot apply to themselves any privilege that does not apply to the general citizenry (benefits like full retirement based on minimal service, special parking, or anything else).
