VA Committee Chairman Calls for Shinseki’s Immediate Resignation

House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Miller (R., Fla.) called for the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki following an inspector general report Wednesday that confirmed allegations of hidden wait times at a Phoenix VA hospital.

The VA Inspector General reported Thursday that more than 1,700 veterans at the Phoenix hospital were kept on unofficial wait lists that hospital leadership used to hide true wait times from officials in Washington. More than 40 veterans allegedly died due to delays in care at the facility.

The report follows allegations of similar practices at VA hospitals around the country in what has become a national scandal for the Obama administration.

In a statement released following the report, Miller called on Shinseki to resign immediately.

The easiest thing in the world for Obama to do was to fire Shinseki last week. Shinseki is already receiving a very healthy retirement check from the Army. It’s not like he’d get thrown out on the street. There’s a reason Obama didn’t fire Shinseki, and it isn’t that he thinks Shinseki is doing a good job.

I am one of those veterans in waiting limbo (told that my appeal will take 3 - 4 years and it is not even listed on ebenefits yet in spite of my multiple queries).

That in itself is loathsome.

But what I’ll loathe General Shinseki for all eternity for is entirely different. He suffered the beret upon the entire United States Army and for that he should have been kicked out of public service a long, long time ago.

Shinseki absolutely must NOT resign. As soon as there’s a resignation connected with an Obam scandal, the issue is swept under the rug and it disappears from the news. Shinseki and Hussein need to tough it out together and take their lumps.

We need a fix to the situation, loping heads and pointing fingers are not going to fix the problem. The media and the politicians will get their mileage, and then it will fade away and slip below the waves.
As much as I doubt it, perhaps someone (100 Senators + 435 Representative + 1 President) will step forward and champion a real solution, but sadly I doubt it

The only thing dumber then the elected people in Olympia and Washington DC are the people who keep electing the same idiots into the new Government Aristocracy that we keep perpetuating.

The problems with VA health care has a very quick remedy; require that our elected representatives (Congressmen, Senator, their families, and staffs) be required to only use the nearest VA Hospital for all their health care needs...and there are no head of the line privileges.

As we watch the number of our elected representatives who actually served in the military (or some other public service) decline each year, this increasing majority have no idea what was involved or the sacrifices our service required.

Sad, but we keep electing them....over and over...perhaps that should change also.

I'm a 20-year retired vet, and I must disagree. Either this case meets the test for manslaughter, or it doesn't. That is how you hold people accountable. And the Statute of Limitations isn't going to expire any time soon.

Of enough people called for the criminal prosecution of those responsible, then we're getting somewhere. If this admin fails to pursue it, then wait until the next administration. Somebody has to go to jail.
