The closest people in New Kent County come these days to seeing their congressman, Eric Cantor, is his sagging 4-by-6 campaign sign on the south side of U.S. 60, just beyond a filling station. Theres been a wave of mail. And the television ads, including one depicting his primary opponent, Dave Brat, as an out-of-touch, ivory-tower liberal who is wobbly on higher taxes.
That commercial, loudly branded by Brat as a fabrication, might not be having the intended effect for Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the U.S. House.
The ad is supposed to turn voters against Brat, an economics professor and a badly outspent longest of long shots. Instead, its turning out voters for him, mostly tea partyers and libertarians whos thinking is ABC: anybody but Cantor.
He was a lot more in touch when he first ran 14 years ago, Scott McPhail, the assistant manager of a local drugstore, said of Cantor. Its worth a few minutes of my time to put a scare in Eric Cantor; so maybe he will listen to his constituents and their concerns.
Voters like McPhail are demanding of Cantor what he has largely escaped since he was first elected in 2000: accountability.

Cantor says Brat is in an ivory tower. That’s funny. Because I said to my wife today “McCain and the rest of them sit in their ivory towers and ignore us little people.” Yep, establishment politicians are the ones in the ivory tower.
Be like that crazy Dad in Staten Island but FIGURATIVELY keep on keeping on.
The former is is a sick basturd the latter is a pos rino bought and paid for.
Brat is awesome. I endorse Brat. Cantor is an amnesty loving Globalist who went for their money. To hell with cantor. God Bless this sovereign country!!
I just dropped off another check for Brat at his Broad Street HQ. The yard signs will be in tomorrow, so I was told.
Although it is an uphill battle, I sense a remote chance for change in the air.
Cantor is an out right liar.
I, too, have contributed to Brat’s campaign.
