First @HiddenCash envelope found tonight in Burbank

By Daily News POSTED: 05/29/14, 7:59 PM PDT | 0 COMMENTS The first @HiddenCash envelope has been found this evening in Burbank, only a short time after the mysterious benefactor tweeted a series of clues leading to the Empire Center shopping complex.

The unknown person behind the Twitter account has been dropping envelopes of cash around the Bay area and this week started up in Los Angeles.

Clues he sent out this evening led followers first to Burbank, then to the 5 Freeway/Empire Avenue area, then finally to an area near a Staples store near the Empire Center.

A man named Chris Treichel of Los Feliz, who said he just started following HiddenCash this evening, found the first envelope, which had $135 in cash, on the grass near the shopping center.

Treichel and others found the following clues from @HiddenCash this afternoon and evening:

“Tonight’s drops: First clue: Sounds like where a robin or eagle might keep their money. 7 PMish.”

“3 drops tonight in same area. Remember your earlier clue? Now head to where Russian, Roman, British ________ meets the road to Sac.”

“Didn’t get a head start? Big shopping center in Burbank. Three drops all around here. First one in cinco minutos. Then about 20 min apart.”

“1st drop: You may find hidden treasure under this tall tree (hint:you can see paper fasteners from here).”

As many on Twitter guessed, the first clue appeared to be “birdbank” which sounds an awful lot like Burbank. The second clue was a reference to the Empire Avenue interchange on the 5 Freeway. And the third, then, clearly seems to indicate the Empire Center.

Finally, the last clue shows a picture of palm trees and was hinting at the Staples at the west end of the shopping complex.

@HiddenCash has rapidly built up more than 300,000 followers on Twitter so expect some congestion in the Burbank area this evening.

A guy giving away money to the masses? Or is this a movie project being filmed with hidden cameras?

If I was an anthrax attacker, this is what I’d use. Stupid rubes running around looking for my letters.

I’m all for doing nice and fun things, but I heard some radio show interview with this guy and he said something like “this needs to be bigger than this.” It just struck me in a weird way.

I used to distribute empty aluminum beer cans on the sides of roads, so that people could collect them and redeem them for cash to improve their lives.

That was my first thought as well. With it now being legal there have been lots of problems with kids eating brownies, etc. laced with it. Some teens knowingly (and eating more than they can handle), and some children eating them by accident. (Oh - look what big brother has hidden in his room!)

I personally think that, if the man is interested in giving money away, he’d do a lot more social good by carefully choosing a charity(ies) of his choice and cutting them a big cheque.

RE: empty aluminum beer cans

You must do it that way. If you keep your empty beer can in the car, you are breaking the law on open containers.

They were showing this on the news, people going through bushes trying to find 135 bucks..but hey according to the media the economy is great, yet people are digging through dirt looking for money
Speaking of Compton, a year ago they had this case where a guy robbed a bank and was driving through the streets of South Central just throwing money out of the SUV, people were running around grabbing that dough

These poor people are gonna burn more in gas, than they will find.

It also seems like a great potential to actually rob people as they search in some desolate location you clued them to, and then you mug em.

Yes, but the catch is that you have to cut off your Slauson to get it.
