"Upton continued on for several yards before he ditched his white truck and ran into the woods, where cops found him about an hour later without any clothes on, WBNG-TV reported."

"The man told cops he was driving from his home in Melrose, Fla. to visit his mother in Connecticut. Police said Upton, who has a DWI conviction from 2008 in Florida, appeared sober."

Sober? It sounds like he's nuts.

Or they could just mandate speed limiters that prevent a car from going more than 5mph. Sure it’s an inconvenience, but if it saves a single life we have to do it!

Just the other day I saw an ambulance have to stop and wait for a break in oncoming traffic. I saw the ambulance coming from behind and pulled over. Some idiot decided that was a good time to pass me so he could turn another hundred yards down the road. When he got to his turn, someone had pulled over right at the entrance to the road and the ambulance caught him and traffic from the other direction just kept coming.

Shady, domestic dispute calls was #1 cause on the job deaths when I was a dispatcher years ago. Not sure about today though.

“I was two miles from the Connecticut border, and all of a sudden I’m in New York, Binghamton, New York, and this cop got killed, I don’t know how it happened. It had to be a time warp. Honestly I’m not bull-——ing. I have proofs in Connecticut. The time warp was something had to happen.”

“All it says is that he was traveling across some states to see some family. I’m putting the premise of this story into the bullshit category until there is some credible evidence to back up the claims of the police.” >>> I see is you are a nasty cop-hater who also cannot read. If you had the ability to comprehend you’d have noticed the man CONFESSED to police he hit the trooper on purpose. Unsure how you missed that....creep.

The newer light bars atop police cruisers have a very intense blue with a strobing effect, often combined with actual strobes in white light. No doubt this is intended to increase visibility and safety, however it can be dazzling to the point of disorientation, particularly at night. Older people and people with borderline vision could very well be partially blinded. If rapidly flashing, brightly colored cartoons can set off seizures, I would wonder if those lights could so so as well.

so he clipped a couple cars in another lane beforehand - sounds like he lost control - “intentionally hit” seems like a BS tag. admittedly fleeing the scene doesn’t help his case

Now that we have those awful red light cameras everywhere (on Long Island), I’ve seen kind of the opposite —

During one of our snowstorms this year, the traffic was terrible, with cars lined up on both sides of the street. It was bumper-to-bumper. There were many, many car accidents all over the place. MORE THAN ONCE, I saw ambulances approaching intersections, lights and sirens going, and NO ONE would move because if they did, they’d trip those damned cameras and get hefty tickets. I could see the indecision on the faces of the drivers. They WANTED to move, but did not want to risk a ticket.

The ambulances had to wait it out like the rest of us.

Regards,

I’m putting the premise of this story into the bullshit category until there is some credible evidence to back up the claims of the police.
From the story:For what reason wouldn't a confession be considered credible evidence by you?

But wait.
Just because we see video of cops lying all the time, you are going to say they might lie to make an accident into a malicious homicide?

The next thing we know you will be demanding that this guy get a jury trial.

You are so not with the program.

My heart goes out to the Troopers family.

Similar deaths have occured here in Wisconsin on more than one occasion. My son (a Wisconsin State Trooper) was narrowly missed while assisting a motorist along the Interstate. He no longer goes to the drivers side window to speak with a driver. Actually, there are no “safe places” on roadways.

Spokesman David Procopio said that the department is investigating whether the “moth effect” is to blame.

"Moth Effect"? More likely the driver was blinded by the newer, brighter LED lights on the trooper's car, and night vision was temporarily disrupted. I can see these new lights from miles away, compared to the older strobes. They are retina burners up close at night.

Okay, the mobile version of their website (which is a hot mess, btw) didn’t have that text in the body of the story so I had go look at it on a desktop. Given that, it just says that police said he confessed. So I’ll keep an open mind on whether or not he did confess until some other source can back up the statements of the police.

When will LEOs approach a vehicle on the passenger side?

They do in Great Britain. What? No...wait.

I keep hopkng to get called for jury duty for some victimless crime where the bulk of the evidence is just the cop’s testimony. In that situation that would just be one person’s word against the word of another person. I’ll be damned if I would vote to convict someone on just the word of a cop.

” Clearly, we need more motor vehicle control laws.”

And, of course, no civilian should be allowed to own a black car.
