This is around 20% of what Ukraine owes Russia for the gas they have already used, dating back to January.

The Financial Times tweeted just 6 minutes ago that talks to avoid a Monday cutoff broke off today without an agreement, nut a new round of talks have been set for next week.

Tweet from "the Government of Russia"s official account: Ukraine says it has paid part of what it owes for gas. Let’s look at the amount. We must make sure that they are willing to pay Medvedev

Also interesting: Russia's LifeNews is reporting that the US Ambassador to Ukraine told Poroshenko instructions not to give on the gas issue, and instead sue Russia for Crimea.

VERY interesting Tweet from the Wall Street Journal's correspondent in Kiev, Anton Troianovski: "Oettinger says Ukraine's gas payment will travel from Kiev to a bank in NY to a Gazprom account in Moscow."

So, who is REALLY paying for this payment???

Hmmm. Wasn’t Russia’s seizure of Crimea payment enough?

There really does need to be compensation for the loss of Crimea to Russia. I’d say that more than covers whatever debt Ukraine owes Russia.
