Massachusetts: House Speaker Introduces Sweeping Gun Control Legislation

Your immediate help is needed to defeat this heinous anti-gun bill

This week, Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo (D-Winthrop) unveiled an extensive gun control bill, House Bill 4121, which would further impact law-abiding gun owners in the Commonwealth. Being promoted as legislation aimed to be outgoing Governor Deval Patrick’s (D) crowning achievement, this egregious bill would give police chiefs discretion in licensing owners for shotguns and rifles, ban the private sale of firearms without a licensed gun dealer and require gun owners to provide a list of all firearms they currently own to the state with each renewal of their license, among many other things. Additionally, it would grant authority to the state Attorney General to remove certain firearms from the approved “firearms roster.”

As anyone who has gone through the process to legally obtain a firearm in Massachusetts knows, there is no dearth of existing laws that regulate the sale, purchase and transfer of firearms. The question should be what gun control laws should be repealed, NOT enacted. Your NRA will continue to stand opposed to any gun laws that have no effect on criminals, do not reduce violent crime and only restrict, harass and impose unnecessary costs and burdens on law-abiding citizens. This is certainly not an unreasonable position, but that seems to be beyond the misguided anti-gun legislators who embrace this proposal.

The first hearing on HB 4121 will take place this Tuesday, June 3, before the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security at 12:00 noon in the Gardner Auditorium of the state Capitol. Please attend and participate at this important hearing. If you cannot attend, it is CRITICAL that you contact members of this committee, using the contact information provided below, and urge them to OPPOSE this outrageous anti-gun bill. Tell them to vote NO on HB 4121.

What more can you expect from a state which imprisons people for defending their homes from intruders?

Yes, and this legislation will drive more MA residents up into New Hampshire - where they will take their liberal views and vote to turn NH into MA.

For those who do live in and are considered to be residents and citizens of the State of Massachusetts. My sincere condolences, because if you don’t fight this tooth and nail...

Then may your chains rest lightly upon you. You are no longer Free Men and Women. You are only marking time until the ‘authorities’ take the next thing from you and it just might be your and your families lives.

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

I guess we no longer have a free state, so this doesn't apply. /sarc/

I can't imagine the brave militia men of Lexington, Concord, and the surrounding towns would take this laying down.

But then, this is modern day King Barack I country...

Aren't we the pessimist? Only a 95% chance of passing in a state like Mass?

When you have to obtain a license to possess a firearm it is no longer a right but a permission slip from the government. This is no different than forcing someone to obtain a license to write a published column. Hopefully someone will sue the state and take it to the SC.

It must be just my luck that I sold a truckload of firearms in a private sale. I did not discriminate as to who the buyers were. A “person” from Provincetown is entitled to own a gun as anyone in the USA. That is The Second Amendment!

Personally, I don’t want them here unless there is an anti-gun liberal here willing to pack up and go take their place. We need a way to get rid of the liberals we have, not tempt more to come here and turn our state into a hellhole...
