You got that right. Mrs. Afterguard and I are both from Fargo (well, actually across the river in Moorhead) and we go back there every few years since we both still have extended family there. But we’ve lived in warmer climes for over 40 years and wouldn’t dream of going back to stay, only because of the winters. It was however,a perfect place to grow up.

It was SO perfect that your children won't have that same perfect place to grow up. I get it.
Well, if North Dakota was SO perfect IT would have 38 million people and NOT California. If it were THAT perfect MORE people would suffer the winters for that "perfection."

My, you seem a bit grumpy today. And a bit irrelevant.

California was the perfect place, the Golden State, the climate, the opportunity, the prosperity. It was therefore targeted by leftists to the point that a state once governed by Ronald Reagan has become a regulatory and tax nightmare, with far more productive citizens fleeing than relocating there. It’s also being conquered in slow motion by it’s neighbor to the south.

North Dakota is a wholesome, largely agricultural and still largely rural state with a harsh climate. It never has had a large population. It’s booming now due to fairly recent development of natural resources. Their unemployment is practically nonexistent, average pay is quite high and they’re doing very well.

That is the reason for the ranking. California, for all it’s charms, the natural beauty and the climate, is in serious decline. You seem to be something of a California fan. Maybe you can work to begin turning this around, rather than disparaging a state that was fairly poor and depopulating up until recent years? That would be a positive.
