WASHINGTON (AP) -- The only American soldier held prisoner in Afghanistan has been freed and is back in U.S. custody after nearly five years of captivity, U.S. officials said Saturday.

The officials said the Taliban agreed to turn over Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in exchange for the release of five Afghan detainees from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The transfers happened after a week of intense negotiations mediated by

This is a twofer for Obama. He helps resurrect his damaged image due to the VA scandal and he reduces the number of prisoners at Gitmo so he can close it eventually.

I've seen three different MSM reports on this.

Each one has a headline that trumpets the American soldier's release and says NOTHING about us releasing 5 Gitmo terrorists.

Two reports call the Gitmo terrorists “detainees.”

In two reports, the Gitmo release is not mentioned until the second paragraph, or later.

None of the reports explain the completely weird circumstances around the American soldier's capture.

Once again, the MSM protects Obama’s political rear end.

As an adult, Bergdahl studied ballet at Sun Valley Ballet School in Ketchum, Idaho.

He never owned a car, riding his bicycle everywhere.

Taliban sources alleging he was ambushed after becoming drunk off base,

I thought we don't negotiate with terrorists

Didn't Obama say Afghanistan's new government won't be perfect? Maybe the Taliban are the new gov we support.

Why not? Isn't the US still arming and training terrorists in Syria?

And how easy would it have been to get that soldier out of Mexico. Cutting off transfer of funds from US banks to Mexico and/or shutting down the nearest large legal border crossing would've worked just fine.

I'm disgusted.

Now, after he returns home he’ll have to wait in endless lines and deal with never-ending phone trees to get his medical care and prescriptions filled. Hopefully he won’t end up on their special list.

Fox News reported in August 2010 that a Taliban commander named Haji Nadeem said Bergdahl was helping to train the Taliban in bomb making and infantry tactics.

June 30, 2009, just a few months after he arrived in Afghanistan, Bergdahl willingly walked away from his unit

When this happened I wondered why anyone would do something like that.

And he still has his head after all this time.
One of these things is not like the others...

They are convinced that on June 30, 2009, just a few months after he arrived in Afghanistan, Bergdahl willingly walked away from his unit, which was deployed in Paktika province in eastern Afghanistan, adjacent to the border with Pakistan. While they do want Bergdahl home, they think he should have to answer allegations that he deserted his unit.

A transcript of radio intercepts, publicly released through Wikileaks, indicates that Bergdahl, then 23, was captured while sitting in a makeshift latrine.

“We were attacking the post he was sitting,” according to a radio intercept of a conversation among insurgents. “He had no gun with him. ... They have all (the) Americans, ANA (Afghan National Army), helicopters, the planes are looking for him. Can you guys make a video of him and announce it all over Afghanistan that we have one of the Americans?”

Rolling Stone magazine quoted emails Bergdahl is said to have sent to his parents that suggest he was disillusioned with America’s mission in Afghanistan, had lost faith in the U.S. Army’s mission there and was considering desertion.

Bergdahl told his parents he was “ashamed to even be American.” Bergdahl, who mailed home boxes containing his uniform and books, also wrote: “The future is too good to waste on lies. And life is way too short to care for the damnation of others, as well as to spend it helping fools with their ideas that are wrong.”

I know it is damned easy for me to say, and I might feel differently if I was the captive, but knowing that those five animals are on the loose on my account would haunt me. I’m of the “avenge me” not the “release me” mindset.

Yep. In simplest terms, whatever behavior you reward, you will get more of said behavior.

Well, Obama already told the Taliban that we are leaving in 2016. Maybe they are the one's who are rewarding Obama's good behavior--along with the release of five of their radical Islamic brethren.
