Obama to impose carbon pollution cap on power plants

In his most sweeping effort to date to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change, the Obama administration will unveil a new rule from the Environmental Protection Agency on Monday limiting the amount of carbon pollution from coal power plants.

The rule will impose a cap on the level of emissions existing power plants are permitted and it will provide each state a flexible series of options to implement that cap. Among other options, power plants will be allowed to increase the energy they derive from renewable sources like wind and solar power, adopt new technology to increase energy efficiency, and join or create a statewide cap-and-trade system to effectively tax the excess carbon emissions.

The total effect of those options could cut the amount of carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants by up to 20 percent.

President Obama explained the importance of the new rules in his weekly address on Saturday.

"Today, about 40 percent of America's carbon pollution comes from power plants. But right now, there are no national limits to the amount of carbon pollution that existing plants can pump into the air we breathe -- none," he said. "We limit the amount of toxic chemicals like mercury, sulfur, and arsenic that power plants put in our air and water. But they can dump unlimited amounts of carbon pollution into the air. It's not smart, it's not safe, and it doesn't make sense."

"That's why, a year ago, I directed the Environmental Protection Agency to build on the efforts of many states, cities, and companies, and come up with commonsense guidelines for reducing dangerous carbon pollution from our power plants," the president continued. "This week, we're unveiling these proposed guidelines,

silly me, I thought the constitution restricted the levying of taxes to laws originating in the House of Representatives, passed by the house and senate and signed by the President.

This Congress decided that since this president is the smartest human ever to exist, that he should be able to just go ahead and do whatever he wants.

Besides, it would be racist to object.

What is a purist? Someone that won't vote for a pro-abortion, anti-gun, socialized medicine, big government liberal just because he won the republican nomination?

One of Michael Savage’s best ideas lately was that of a “climate prison”, where politicians, scientific frauds, and other sundry suspects can be locked up once the dust settles and the People’s Tribunals begin over this monstrous scam.

I wish states would stand up and tell Obama and the EPA to pound sand.

We have allowed the Feds to gain control via tax breaks, raids, audits and general harassment. It has to be turned back.

Unfortunately and without sarcasm, Harry Reed is also a HUGE problem in that he refuses to bring any bill passed by the house to a vote in the senate. Look at the recent VA bill passed with over 300 votes to give the VA secretary special authority to fire folks. Reed and Sanders both say it is “not needed” because there may not really be a problem.

Naaah, that’s old school. You gotta get with the times! A constitutional republic is so 20th century.

No. The GOP is as complicit in this velvet coup as Obama is in implementing it.

Obama said plainly that when Congress fails to act as he demands, he will do so on his own.

Did he stutter? Or did we decide he was only kidding? Where was the "loyal opposition"??

*crickets*, silence from the GOP leadership and most of the GOP and the judiciary on that declaration of dictatorship.

Obama should have been arrested on the spot for treason at that moment.

But treason today only applies to anyone defying the MarxoFascist State.

So now the precedent for dictatorship is set and permanent.

Thanks in large part to the GOP Establishment failing to do it's Constitutional duty and helping the dictatorship come into fullness.

Oh Johnny always an interloper - you in your bitter angst misrepresents and lies. I have found absolutists to be bitter, angry and, yes, very authoritarian. Absolutists tend to lash out and are hell in person to deal with since their whole lives revolve around themselves from my observations.

Never complain about Obama again. You have not earned that right.

There will never be a candidate you will be happy with. Some people are better at tearing down and ripping apart and will do so with all their heart to prevent someone who is not an absolutist from winning. I don't get my way, so I am going to take my ball and go home. I have feeling you were one of those kids.

Instead of getting 70% of something, you now get 0%. Wallow in it.

I will vote for any candidate that is pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, against amnesty, against socialized medicine, and for a smaller government.

That's all it takes. I'm not looking for perfection.

Who the hell named you Authority to tell us we have no right to complain about Obama? You think that because we do not support your Ruling Class Judenrat oligarchs from the GOP leadership you can assert we have no grounds to complain?

The silly intimidation tactics from you Ruling Class party hacks is laughable. We did things your way for freaking DECADES - sucking it up and voting for one GOP-e Ruling Class stooge after another - and LOSING one election after another. Hell even when they win, they go and assist the Democrats in establishing this tyranny we now have over us.

It is YOU and your kind that gave us Obama. in the first place. You are the people even now demanding Conservatives vote for McConnell even AFTER he publicly declared war on us.

Your GOP party leadership is as complicit as Obama’s MarxoFascist democrats in establishing this Fascist dictatorship over us. We’re all stuck with wallowing in the tyranny your party has helped protect and establish.
