Florida Republicans on Saturday elected a new leader in a split vote that underscored the challenges Gov. Rick Scott faces from within his own party in his re-election effort.
With a 106-69 vote, GOP activists elected Clay County Realtor Leslie Dougher as chairwoman of the Republican Party of Florida to fill the remainder of the term of outgoing state party chief Lenny Curry.
The quarterly meeting of the state executive committee also provided an opportunity for Republicans to fire up their base and engage in a little Charlie Crist-bashing less than six months before the final ballots are cast in the governor's race.
Dougher, 50, quickly became the heir apparent to the leadership post after Curry announced his intention to step down early this month. The Coldwell Banker Realtor from Middleburg readily won the backing of leading Republicans, including state Sen. John Thrasher, a onetime Republican Party chairman from St. Augustine who serves as Scott's campaign chairman and who nominated Dougher on Saturday morning.

her political views are based on small govt., low taxes, and personal responsibility.
Not sure. Clay county is on whole pretty conservative. Middlebury is the same town of first termer Rep. Yoho who was supposed to be a Tea Party guy and beat out a long term sitting Republican but has himself gone establishment, much to the chagrin of those who sent him there.
Kenny has not been much of an out front leader and I am told he may be seeking his first elective office for JAX mayor.

Clay County in FL is the rural area between Gainesville and Jacksonville, and the general rule is the more rural the area in FL, the more conservative the inhabitants.
This is how you change the party. Its how we put solidly conservative Dave Agema on the Republican National Committee in Michigan. Terri Land was also seated in that same election but left the seat to run for the seat being vacated by Carl Levin. Unfortunately Mitt Romney’s niece was placed in the RNC seat when Land left.
The Florida media is going full bore for the pro-Obamacare, pro-sodomy, pro-infanticide Charlie Crist.
Rick Scott will need prayer, votes and money.
