Some states move to blunt impact of Obama's expected emission standards for power plants

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — As President Barack Obama prepares to announce tougher new air quality standards, lawmakers in several states already are trying to blunt the impact on aging coal-fired power plants that feed electricity to millions of consumers.

The Obama administration on Monday will roll out a plan to cut earth-warming pollution from power plants by 30 percent by 2030, further diminishing coal's role in U.S. electricity production in the process. The Environmental Protection Agency refused to confirm the details of the proposal Sunday. People familiar with the proposal shared the details on condition of anonymity, since they had not been officially released.

The opposition to Obama's new carbon emission standards has been strongest in some states that have large coal-mining industries or rely heavily on coal to fuel their electricity. State officials say the new federal regulations could jeopardize the jobs of thousands of workers and drive up the monthly electric bills of residents and businesses.

It remains to be seen whether new measures passed by the states will amount to mere political symbolism or actually temper what's expected to be an aggressive federal effort...

The proposed EPA rules to be announced Monday could be the first to apply to carbon dioxide emissions at existing power plants. Coal is the most common fuel source for the nation's electricity and, when it's burned, is a leading source of the greenhouse gasses that trap heat in the atmosphere and contribute to climate change.

Without waiting to see Obama's proposal, the governors of Kansas, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia signed laws directing their environmental agencies to develop their own carbon emission plans that consider the costs of compliance at individual power plants. Similar measures recently passed in Missouri and are pending in the Louisiana and Ohio legislatures.

The development of a Fascist State like Hitler had in 1930’s Germany, and what Obama almost has now in the nearly former USA, depends upon opposition leaders who refuse to lead the opposition, but continue to stay in power by support of their morally weak supporters.

The last attempt to oppose Obama failed when Boehner, Cantor, McConnell and McCain caved in to the stonewalling refusal to negotiate by Reid and Obama in late 2013 and early 2014.

Until effective voter pressure can be brought to bear on the Republicans and Democrats in the House and Senate to replace the Republican Leadership in the House and Senate, Obama will continue to “Fundamentally transform the United States of America” into the most powerful Fascist Empire that the World has ever known.

Will these opposition Congressmen and women act before the November 2014 Election, or will they continue to wait to lose again, as usual, to the Left Wing, low information Voter in November, 2014?

BTW, money and reason are wasted on multimillionaire career politicians as they cannot be bought or convinced - - - they are the hardened professional criminal politicians that we have, for decades, elected and tolerated, gratefully for the “free” stuff that they have bought our votes with.

Obama is just doing as he was raised up to do, and will never change.

Our opposition Republican Leaders are doing everything that they can to make sure Obama is successful, and they will never change.

The change must come from opposition House Members and Senators in “both” parties, before low-information voters have made up their minds about whether or not to continue the status quo.

The Summer of 2014 is the last chance for We, the People to force our House and Senate Members to change their leadership before Labor Day, 2014, when early voting begins?

I’m confused by all of this. Is air stagnant? If we go to carbon credits isn’t that a zero sum game?

That’s not a bad Idea....Ignore the epA, and when the Electricity is suddenly “CUT OFF”, via court order or unpaid fines, in the middle of Winter or Summer, and your Refridgerator goes off, lights go off, computer goes off, the Public might GO OFF on the EPA, and friends of same.

Right. Obama picks and chooses what laws he likes , well just do the same thing. How can it be right for him but no one else?

Exactly! The states created the "federal" government, not the other way around. It's time the states exerted control over their creation.

Hear that, Gov. Butch Otter (R-Idaho)? We have the right of refusal. That means if we don't want Obamacare (we don't), you can band together with other governors and tell the Obammunist to go stuff himself. Too late for that, I guess.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

“President Barack Obama prepares to announce tougher new air quality standards...”
I’m confused. Is that a legal executive order or should it fall under the purview of Congress?

Unfortunately SCOTUS ruled that the EPA can regulate CO2 emmissions. So another administration will have to roll it back.
