Ex-Charlotte mayor to plead in corruption case

Former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon was expected to plead guilty Tuesday in a corruption case after an FBI sting recorded him accepting thousands of dollars in cash and airline tickets from undercover agents posing as businessmen, according to court documents.

Cannon agreed to plead guilty to a single count of honest services wire fraud, which carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to documents filed Monday at U.S. District Court. Cannon was set to appear Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge David Cayer.

Cannon, 47, was arrested March 26 and the Democrat resigned the same day, less than six months after taking office. Cannon's lawyer, James Ferguson of Charlotte, did not immediately respond to a message left at his office.

Cannon's admission of guilt ends a remarkable rise for a man raised by a single mother in one of the city's poorest neighborhoods. He went on to start his own company that manages 25,000 parking spaces, mostly in the city's central business district.

Cannon was first elected to the City Council in 1993 and became mayor in November, replacing Anthony Foxx, who was named Transportation Secretary by President Obama.

Just another product of the Affirmative Action Society.

There are plenty of good men and women of all colors who are not corrupt. But when men and women are pushed to believe that color and liberalism trumps integrity...winning wins and integrity is forgotten.

We have too many thieves in this country. They aren’t afraid of jail. We’re going to have to hang some of them.

"We have too many thieves in this country. They aren’t afraid of jail. We’re going to have to hang some of them."

You'd wipe out the entire Cook County administration, right down to the subway ticket clerks. (Also 90% of the population of Springfield, but that's another subject.)

I didn’t need to read the whole article. I just kind of knew he was Amish.

Honestly, I don’t think those folks have the genentic ability to self govern. I mean look, they still drive buggies and dress in long black frock coats and shoot up the neighborhood and, oh... wait.

“There are plenty of good men and women of all colors who are not corrupt.”

Unfortunately, most of them stay clear of being a politician! The other thing that you find is that most politicians started out being lawyers. I guess that’s just an extension of the old saying “what do you call a failed lawyer? Answer: Your Honor.”

When you run out of rope (you can raid the hemp growers), you can use plastic rope. Works just as well and we have plenty of oil from which to make more.

Anyone connected to Obama should automatically be assumed as a crook.

We have plenty of jail cells. Let’s fill them, starting at the top.

This is very old news, but still, that was fast work, even for a Democrat!
