So... let’s give the feminine names to the weaker storms. They won’t bitch about THAT, will they ?

The Washington Post must, had to have, gotten punked into running this obvious satire as a straight story.

(The study excluded Katrina and Audrey, outlier storms that would skew the model).Hmmmm.

Didn’t all hurricanes have female names at one time?

I think it was Jay Leno who suggested giving then names like Frankenstein or Godzilla.

Two universities that are nowhere near the ocean spent money to study this? No wonder they came up with such stupid conclusions-unless this is a joke...

I wish I didn’t see this. Someone paid for the study. Unbelievable that people believe water KNOWS something.

And up until 8 or so years ago, all hurricanes had female names. This sounds like feminist inspired bogus research. Or someone’s idea to get paid to produce useless statistics on the taxpayers dime.

Researchers at the University of Illinois and Arizona State University examined six decades of hurricane death rates according to gender, spanning 1950 and 2012. Of the 47 most damaging hurricanes, the female-named hurricanes produced an average of 45 deaths compared to 23 deaths in male-named storms,All Hurricanes had Female names from 1950 to around 1980. Most of the Female Hurricanes were before we even had satellite warning systems.
I can't believe they actually published this report.
How many tax dollars did they give these idiots?

We need another study to determine if certain female names convey more of a sense of danger. For example would a hurricane named Susie concern people less than a hurricane named Hagatha? Once they go through all the possible names they can assign a threat conveyance number. /sarc
