It all began with the “We never went to the moon” crowd which is loosely connected with the Larouche bunch. Their beliefs are always based on things they cannot prove or show evidence to support.

One of the traits of a cult is the desire to make you believe something that obviously isn’t true. “I know you saw that plane crash into the building but it really didn’t happen”. “I know the Bible says Jesus turned water into wine but that isn’t really what it says”.

I was in a painting workshop with one of the guys who went to the moon (can't remember his name right now). That was all he talked about “I have been to the moon and you haven't”. “I get more of the instructors time because I have been to the moon”.
All his paintings were moonscapes.

If you had told that guy the the moon landing was a fake, his head would have exploded. :)
