Sgt. Bergdahl to the Firing Squad?
U.S. News & World Report ^ | June 3, 2014 | Steven Nelson

Military law experts discuss possible desertion charges against recovered Taliban prisoner.

Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. Army sergeant released from Taliban custody Saturday in exchange for five of the fanatical Islamist group’s leaders held at Guantánamo Bay, may find himself in captivity again – this time in an American military prison.

Bergdahl, now 28, left or was taken from his base in Afghanistan in June 2009 after sending his parents an email saying “ life is way too short to care for the damnation of others, as well as to spend it helping fools with their ideas that are wrong. … I am ashamed to even be [A]merican,” Rolling Stone reported in 2012.

He was reportedly traumatized by seeing an Afghan child crushed by an MRAP armored vehicle and told his parents his battalion commander was a “conceited old fool” and his peers were “the army of liars, backstabbers, fools, and bullies.” He shipped a uniform and books to his parents.

Tales from Bergdahls’ compatriots suggest internal fury about his vanishing, which some believe was a deliberate act that led to the deaths of other soldiers. Fellow battalion member Nathan Bethea wrote in The Daily Beast as many as eight U.S. deaths may have been related to the ensuing search.

He has about as much chance of being punished (much less executed) as Joe Biden has of being the next head of MENSA or Nancy Pelosi appearing on the cover of Playboy.

A 5 month suspended sentence would give his fans a big thrill...

5 months in prison for desertion would make him an even bigger hero to them.

Regardless, this guy is NO "hero" and his 15 minutes of fame are going to be a nightmare for his family.

I can only imagine the entire families of the soldiers massacred who went looking for what they thought was a comrade in arms are thinking.

Betcha it isn't going to be pretty.

And no amount of liberal media "spin" will save them.

This is NOT a "republican phony scandal".

Even the biggest pinkos aren't keen on what Obama did.

Because even they realize that the Taliban thugs released are going to come a knockin'.

Why wouldn’t the Taliban (or any other group) start kidnapping every U.S. soldier they can get their hands on? Now they know they can demand anything they want?

Wasn’t he a corporal when he turned his coat? So how did he earn another stripe while collaborating?

Apparently, he was given time-in-grade promotions while he was working for the Taliban. This is fairly standard in the military.

He’s up for Staff Sgt as soon as the dust settles. Wonder how the NCO Corp will feel about this, lol....

So how did he earn another stripe while collaborating?

He was not collaborating and he was not deserting.

He was adhering to the enemies of the United States, giving them aid and comfort.

He may never even come back to the US. ObaMao/Hagel could order him “processed out” in Germany, give him 5 years’ pay and he could go right back to the Taliban.
