In 1974, Reagan and his wife Nancy bought a 688 acre ranch called Rancho del Cielo ("Sky's Ranch" or "Heaven's Ranch") to get away from the stress of the political world. To assist him on the ranch chores, Reagan purchased a 1962 Jeep CJ-6. The workhorse Jeep was mostly stock, except for the 8000lb Ramsey PTO winch. The 134ci four cylinder engine, T-90 3 speed and Spicer 18 transfer case were deemed strong enough to handle the tough ranch life.

Reagan’s Ranch, Rancho del Cielo is a gorgeous 688 acre property, but the adobe home is a tiny modest ranch style house. It’s neat to think that if you put the amount of time together, Reagan spent a year at this location during the 8 years he was president and even had British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Queen Elizabeth II and Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev visit him there.

The house itself was very rustic. An example of this was the double bed that the Reagans slept in. Since the President was 6' 4" tall, his feet hung off the end of the bed. Rather than buy a new bed, he placed a stool at the end of the bed and rested his feet on the stool.
