What about, "Dad, I'm an atheist". Would dad have changed what he had believed then, too?
The Bible is the truth. The truth doesn't change just because our fallible, man-brain ideas do.
My view is that God will use the Church however its numbers may be affected by the devil’s trends. We believers, disciples, must love God, love our neighbor (everyone), keep in the word, keep His Commandments, and endeavor to make disciples. “Disciples” would never define unrepentant sinners.
If the trend is for the Church to define unrepentant sinners as disciples, it is not the Church. If the Church redefines sin to not be sin, it is not the Church. Many churches are not the Church.
“word” should be Word.
Amen, it is the truth.
I don’t know what it is about declarations of homosexuality from family members that seems to change minds about right and wrong. It’s singular and mystifying to me.
Just out of curiosity, would you mind stating what denomination you are a member of?
Southern Baptist.
They think I’m strange too...
I do wrestle with some of the doctrine, like whether on not Jesus had siblings, which I think is not a point made in Scripture, so it’s probably not important. And where a “believer” cannot climb out of His hand, because with the Scriptures taken literally it could be correct and then be incorrect. I think an uncommitted Christian is an oxymoron.
There are other things and this is just a touch of my own reaction to studying the Scriptures as I have been challenged to do by my pastors, my parents’ priests, and many of the Catholics on FR. I don’t go along with many of the Catholic Church’s teaching as it seems to me that much has been assumed, and then been given the same weight as Scripture and I haven’t seen the support for some teachings in the Scripture I have been pointed to.
I will continue to study the Bible and spread the Gospel as long as I live, and it is a daily joy.
Kind of a wordy answer to your question, (in case you read past the first line) but I learn well in this Southern Baptist church and this seems to be where the LORD wants me to be. I teach Sunday School and throw my doubts about what is being taught on occasion to the class and learn quite a bit from the “seniors” I share the class with. I have not ever been reprimanded for challenging the teaching of the “Convention”.
