Does the ‘03 Springfield use a stripper clip? If so, that’s what I was confusing with the M1. Obviously, rifles are not my area of expertise when it comes to firearms.

Yes. The problem with Springfield stripper clips is that the cartridges are retained by the small tabs at each end. These usually break off after a few cycles. If you have originals it's best to keep them as collector pieces and either buy some reproductions in a better metal or investigate the various Mauser stripper clips. As long as the width is close, Mauser clips may work. Proper evaluation for function before relying on substitute parts is prudent.
